These have gaming-centric features and often have a certain gaming aesthetic to them, but may not be to everyone's taste, but there are some mainstream phones that do gaming better than others.

What's the best right now? Here's our list of what we think are the best gaming phones.

ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro

No one does gaming smartphones like ASUS. four iterations of the ROG Phone series, and that remains a fact.

The ROG Phone 6/6 Pro is still arguably the "boss" of the mobile gaming space. This is definitely an iteration of last year's model rather than a major upgrade, but it's very good. ASUS is firmly in first place on that particular podium with the breadth and depth of its mobile gaming efforts, not any particular gimmick, and the ROG Phone 6 is even more so.

Some of the highlights of the ROG Phone 6 include one of the best 10-bit, HDR10+, 165Hz Super AMOLED displays, some of the best sounding, huge symmetrical stereo speakers with dedicated drivers, incredible haptics, and two of the most sophisticated AirTrigger capacitive touch controls for gaming.

Two battery packs totaling 6,000 mAh with fast and standard PD charging provide amazing wired connectivity through its additional USB Type-C side port, including video output and external hard drive support, and the entire package has IPX4 protection this year.

And of course, you get the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset from Qualcomm along with up to 18GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

But what really sets the ROG Phone series apart is ASUS' unparalleled access to low-level OS performance settings and limiters for gamers. This level of commitment and customizability remains unmatched by any competitor in the smartphone gaming space.

It's not all strengths though, like all other phones, the ROG Phone 6/6 Pro has its weaknesses. The once robust ASUS accessory ecosystem has shrunk and shrunk to a shadow of its former glory state. On the bright side, this year marks the biggest leap forward for the AeroActive cooler accessory, which now includes a Perforator element.

Unfortunately, it's not included in the box. Enthusiasts may want one, as it's the only way to really take full advantage of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and the ROG Phone 6/6 Pro can sometimes be difficult to properly cool on its own. Last year's thermal airflow was a little better.

We should probably also mention the ROG Phone 6D. The "D" here stands for Dimensity, which is basically what Asus did when they took the ROG Phone 6 and swapped out the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset for the Dimensity 9000+. - The overclocked version of MediaTek's top-of-the-line chip.

The end result is a phone that is very close to its Snapdragon sibling in terms of overall performance and experience. So much so, in fact, that I'm happy to suggest the cheaper option. That said, I still think the Snapdragon equipped ROG Phone 6 has a slight edge over its sibling.

Since we are already eliminating differences, there is also the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate Edition, which we have reviewed in full. As the name suggests, it also uses the MediaTek Tiangui 9000+ chipset, with one additional variation.

A special electric air cooling duct called AeroActive Portal, which opens and allows the AeroActive Cooler 6 bundled in the box , to better reach the inside of the phone. It's certainly an interesting idea and has its ups and downs. You can read all about it in the comments.

ZTE Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro

The Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro is undoubtedly the best Red Magic phone to date. In addition to the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, it supports more efficient operation and higher raw performance. Of course, we also get a 6.8″ AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate and 1B colors for fast response.

Just like previous Red Magic models, the Red Magic 7S Pro is affordable, ships almost anywhere, and looks cool, especially if you choose the transparent option. And the ROG phone needs an accessory that Nubia has built in - a cooling fan. It ensures a stable gaming environment and maintains optimal frames per second.

It may not be picture perfect because of poor camera performance, but as far as gaming and sustained performance - the Red Magic 7S Pro is the best in its class.

Xiaomi Black Shark 5 Pro

The Xiaomi Black Shark 5 Pro comes with a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and many gaming-oriented features. It's a great choice as it's probably one of the cheapest in the gaming bunch. Its highlights include 144Hz OLED, a flagship chipset with commendable sustained performance, and a full range of connectivity options.

The Xiaomi Black Shark 5 Pro features a 6.67-inch OLED display with 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ playback support. It also comes with a large 4,650mAh battery that can be charged quickly at 120W for 15 minutes. It also comes with premium stereo speakers.

The best part is that the Xiaomi Black Shark 5 Pro isn't that expensive, not for ROG money anyway. If that's still a bit too expensive for you, you might want to consider the cheaper Snapdragon 870-powered Black Shark 5 or the Snapdragon 888-powered Black Shark 5 RS.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max
