Samsung is expected to release its Galaxy S23 series of smartphones in February 2023. Like its predecessors, the S23 series is likely to consist of three models - Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
This time, along with the new processor, these smartphones will also get an improved storage solution, details of which are given below.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Series: Model
Like the previous Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S21 series, I expect the Galaxy S23 to be offered in three different options: Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra.
The "regular" S23 should offer the core Galaxy S23 experience in a smaller form factor and at the lowest price. the S23+ may offer a larger display and battery in exchange for a higher price.

We have no reason to believe that Samsung will change this strategy in 2023, especially since all three phones have been seen to have a large number of solid vulnerabilities. Samsung Galaxy S23 Series: Design

However, the base Samsung Galaxy S23 and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra appear to be nearly identical to their predecessors, with the only noticeable change being a slightly different camera layout and edges. In fact, a recent leak suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will have the exact same dimensions as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
When it comes to the edges, the Samsung Galaxy S23 may have a slight change in curvature. Instead of the more rounded edges found in the Samsung Galaxy S22, the Samsung Galaxy S23 has a more squared-off look to reduce the curvature of the glass - at least according to the tipster. While the design change isn't huge, it could affect the grip of the Samsung Galaxy S23, as its rougher edges may allow users to grip their devices better.
The reason for the change in the edges of the Samsung Galaxy S23 seems to be the use of a new metal frame inside. It seems to be a bit wider around the edges and therefore requires a sharper curve than what we've seen in Galaxy devices before.
The camera design on the Samsung Galaxy S23 has also changed slightly. On the Samsung Galaxy S22, all the lenses and sensors are located on a raised island, and now they appear to follow the floating camera design found on countless other smartphones.
It's not a major change, but it seems likely to be one of the only differences between the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Samsung Galaxy S22.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Series: Chips
Recent leaks paint a very flattering picture of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series in terms of its specs, but there are also some conflicting reports, which means it's important to take the following information with a grain of salt.
According to the leaker, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series appears to be very similar to the previous Samsung Galaxy S22 series, but with one key difference: it could be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC (system on chip).
And the Xiaomi 13 series is already available, and it too is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, so it's clear that Samsung will be on the same page. There was some truth to this argument when it was first made, but the Qualcomm chip in the Samsung Galaxy S23 seems the most likely.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Series: Storage Options
According to the latest reports, the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra is said to offer at least 256GB of internal storage, which is a huge step up from the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which only comes with 128GB of internal storage on the base model. Not only that, the Galaxy S23 Ultra's storage will be based on the latest UFS 4.0 storage. As a result, we can expect faster app load times and higher read and write speeds.
The base model will have 256GB of storage, while the other two models will offer 512GB and 1TB of internal storage. The increase in storage space for the base model may also make the Galaxy S23 Ultra a little more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. So the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is far less.
All three models will ship with the Android 13 operating system with a custom OneUI 5 skin on top. These phones are expected to receive four major Android OS updates as well as five years of security updates.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Series: Battery
Rumor has it that the Samsung Galaxy S23 series will come with the same 5,000mAh capacity battery as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The S22 Ultra has solid battery life and charging time, but doesn't stand out among the likes of OnePlus' ultra-fast charging speeds. That said, we wouldn't be complaining if the entire Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup came with at least a 5,000mAh battery.
However, the 5,000mAh battery could be reserved exclusively for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, as confirmed in the leak for the Ultra. One would certainly expect the base Samsung Galaxy S23 to have a larger battery, but a recent leak suggests a battery capacity of just 3,900mAh.
While this is a slight upgrade over the 3,700mAh battery in the base Samsung Galaxy S22 model, most users will barely notice it.
This could mean that S23 users won't see a huge change in battery life if they upgrade from a previous model. However, if the base S23 comes with a 5,000mAh battery, there will be a very noticeable difference.
Unfortunately, the charging speed leaves something to be desired, as leaks suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S23 will support 25W wired charging and only 15W wireless charging. While this is exactly what was found in the Samsung Galaxy S22, many are hoping for some sort of upgrade from Samsung in the charging place, as other flagships like OnePlus, Huawei, and Xiaomi support charging speeds well over 25W.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Series: Satellite Connectivity

According to the latest leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series could be getting its own version of satellite connectivity. Samsung has allegedly partnered with Iridium to support the feature, and unlike Apple's implementation on the iPhone, it won't be limited to emergencies. If reports are accurate, satellite connectivity on the Samsung Galaxy S23 will allow users to "transfer data such as text messages and low-volume images at speeds of hundreds of kbps.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series: release date and price
Since Samsung has no official word on the S23, we don't have a specific release date. That said, in looking at past releases, we can begin to get a sense of what the company may have planned for the calendar.
Based on this, it is safe to assume that the Samsung Galaxy S23 will launch in the first months of 2023, especially in late January or February, based on the last two flagship versions.
