Apple's stunning new Mac mini is now available. While it may look identical to its old M1 predecessor, the new Mac mini features the powerful M2 Apple silicon chip, as well as the even more powerful M2 Pro option.

The new M2 Mac mini can now come with tons of RAM and storage, making it a desktop powerhouse. However, it also has a $9,999 Chip Pro option thanks to the choice of the standard M2 chip, putting competitors off. In Here's everything you need to know about the new M2 Mac mini.

M2 Mac mini: Design

The new M2 Mac mini comes in the same enclosure as the previous M1 version. As a result, it measures 7.75 inches x 7.75 inches, keeping the same low profile.

It's also very small at just 1.41 inches tall. The mini computer weighs just a little over 1.14kg, but that shouldn't be a big deal considering it's not a portable computer.

Like the old M1, M2 Mac mini has a very small footprint. It also has the same cooling features as the M1 version. That's a reasonable advantage over M1-equipped MacBook models, thanks to improved cooling performance, which is replicated here.

M2 Mac mini: Connectivity

It's only near the back that you'll find the ports and intake cooling vents for the M2 Mac Mini.The M2 model features two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, and two USB-A ports, as well as a Gigabit Ethernet port (with optional 10GB support), a headphone jack capable of driving high-impedance headphones (much like those seen on the Mac) Studio), as well as a power outlet and power button.

The M2 Mac Mini can support simultaneous streaming to two separate displays and also includes high-speed Wi-Fi 6E (twice as fast as previous generations) and Bluetooth 5.3.

M2 Mac mini: Processor

The real upgrade, however, is the internal M2 chip. Building on the success of the M1 series, this isn't a transformative leap in power over the older models, but it's worth it.

Mac Mini with M2 features an 8-core CPU (four high performance, four efficiency) and 10-core GPU, delivering up to 24GB of unified memory and 100GB/s of bandwidth.

By Apple's estimates, it's 50% faster than the M1 chip in some cases, and "five times faster" than the best-selling Windows replacement, which is billed as a machine with an Intel Core i5-CPU and Intel UHD graphics 730. However, this year's new Mac mini also comes with a Super M2 Pro option.

Along with the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros for 2023, this Mac Mini variant marks the debut of the M2 Pro chip.

It's a 12-core CPU (eight high-performance, four high-efficiency) and a 16-core GPU (or optional killer 19-core GPU) supporting up to 32GB of RAM and 200GB/s of memory bandwidth.

According to the official site, this could be twice the size of the standard M2 chip, with 14 times faster processing power than Apple's last Intel Mac Mini. This applies to simultaneous playback of five 8K ProRes 422 video streams at 30 fps, or up to 23 4K ProRes 422 video streams at 30 fps.

Apple claims you'll get up to 15 times better gaming performance than with the old Intel Mac Mini, which takes advantage of the efficient performance of the Metal API and Apple silicon when working in tandem.

M2 Mac mini: Configuration options, RAM, SSD storage and more

As for configuration options, the M2 Mac Mini starts at $4,499 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. 16GB of RAM adds $1,500, and 24GB of RAM adds $3,000.

For more storage, you'll need to pay an extra $1,500 to upgrade to 512GB of storage, an extra $3,000 for 1TB, and an extra $6,000 for 2TB.

Upgrading to 10 Gigabit Ethernet will cost you another $750, bringing the total price of a full-spec M2 Mac Mini to $14,249.

We can imagine, but the best option would be the 16GB / 1TB option, which would cost you $8,999. Keep in mind that you may also need to consider the price of a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
