On the one hand, foldable phones have boomed over the past three years, with Samsung's Z Fold and Z Flip series leading mainstream acceptance. But while many consumers remain skeptical of the ambitious designs of these foldable products, and are justifiably concerned about their durability, learning curve, and entry price, there are more of them on the market now than ever before.

I've collected the "hot" foldable phones on the market today, including our best entry-level phones and best overall phones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

I've tested a lot of foldable phones, but none compare to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 4, which offers a unique tablet experience while being able to fit snugly in your jeans and pants pockets.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 represents the fourth generation of Samsung's industry-leading foldable products, which means you can expect incremental updates that result in a comprehensive and refined foldable experience.

On the technical front, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 finally comes with what we consider to be a flagship camera system, helmed by a 50MP wide-angle lens, the same lens that delivers crisp and vibrant images on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus.

Compete with the industry's best. Samsung also trimmed the frame from the inside out to make the updated Z Fold lighter and easier to maneuver.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 isn't a revolutionary upgrade to its predecessor, but it really doesn't need to be, anyway. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung has shrunk the frame and hinge of the Z Flip 4. It also shrunk the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 by a few millimeters, but added a few grams to its weight. Why? Because the battery capacity has increased by 400mAh!

Combined with the more powerful and energy-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a longer battery life than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 ever thought possible. It also charges faster than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, so if you ever need to charge the battery, it only takes about 20 minutes to get enough juice.

The sophisticated design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 includes a flatter hinge than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, which not only makes it feel more like a "normal" phone when unfolded, but also helps to minimize the look of the center display crease.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 retains a smaller cover display thanks to the cover screen, which is much more useful these days this extends the out-of-the-box functionality that Samsung offers. Inside is a gorgeous 120Hz display, stronger than last year 45%, and the pre-installed screen protector now has a stronger adhesion and better application, helping to eliminate flaking over time.

Samsung has also upgraded the camera experience by installing a brighter sensor underneath the large lens on the back of the phone. This results in faster low-light shots and better overall quality. Best of all, even with all the upgrades, it still costs the same as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. The best Galaxy Z Flip 4 is usually hundreds cheaper than the normal price.

Huawei Mate XS 2

Huawei's first big foldable offerings, the Mate X and XS, are interesting because they feature foldable form factors and displays, which is the opposite of what Samsung tried to do with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.

Instead of folding inward, the display expanded outward (like a 2-in-1 laptop) and was always exposed, but it looked great. Fast forward to today and the latest Huawei Mate Xs 2 builds on that with a new Eagle Wing design.

The Huawei Mate Xs 2 is clearly a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, and it certainly surpasses the Galaxy in some ways.

For starters, the main large screen spans 7.8 inches diagonally with a PPI of 424. it's a high-resolution panel with no visible creases, an issue that has plagued Samsung's Galaxy foldable phone from the get-go.

The Huawei Mate Xs 2 also comes with a larger 4,880mAh battery to provide better battery life.

OPPO Find N2 Flip

This is OPPO's best flip phone. This one borrows the amazing Flexion Hinge technology that made the OPPO Find N and N2 so impressive, because it finally gets rid of the display crease. This is significant for foldable phones - especially smaller flip phones - because it means no more annoying lines in the middle of the display.

OPPO's hardware design is similar to Samsung's, but improved in several ways.The Flexion Hinge means that the phone actually folds flat when closed - unlike Samsung's hinge, which is wedge-shaped - and the outer screen is much larger than Samsung's Flip lineup offers.

While OPPO hasn't done much with the external display, some third-party apps have allowed to make full use of the screen, just like you can with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series. The best part here is that the screen isn't something trivial unlike the Galaxy Z Flip series on the OPPO Find N2 Flip.

While there's no IP rating for water or dust resistance, OPPO hopes that the tradeoffs above make it more suitable for everyday use than Samsung's own.

The company has also equipped the OPPO Find N2 Flip with 44W charging, which means it charges roughly twice as fast as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip - and it can charge up to 50% in just 20 minutes, which helps to eliminate any battery anxiety you might experience when you forget to charge the battery anxiety plugging it in.

Huawei Mate X3

Huawei has unveiled its new foldable-screen Mate X3, boasting the same book-like form factor as the Mate X2 and Galaxy Z Fold series.

Featuring a 7.85-inch internally foldable screen (2,496 × 2,224, LTPO 120Hz) and a 6.4-inch FHD+ curved smartphone display (LTPO 120Hz), it's only 5.3 millimeters thick and weighs just 239 grams, which is lighter than Samsung's Z Fold 4 (263 grams) and just a bit heavier than the Galaxy S23 Ultra (234 grams) A little heavier than the Galaxy S23 Ultra (234 grams).

It also has a "feather sand glass" back that resists fingerprint grease and an IPX8 rating for water resistance. The Mate X3 also has a free-stop type hinge that can stop at any point between fully open and closed, allowing for some Flex Mode style functionality.

In terms of core specs, it features a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 4G chipset, storage options from 256GB to 1TB, a 4,800mAh battery, and support for 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

For photography, it has a 50MP main camera with OIS (RYYB filter), a 13MP ultra-wide camera with macro support and a 12MP 5X periscope camera, as well as two 8MP selfie cameras that can be switched to use either the front or rear cameras.

It also has Bluetooth 5.2, dual SIM support, an infrared emitter, a side fingerprint scanner, and two-way satellite messaging via Beidou satellite.
