Hello, how are you? I am the original huh, click on the attention, more exciting content waiting for you!
Want to try something different for your next cell phone upgrade? Then you might want to check out the foldable phone, a new type of smartphone with a clever folding screen.
But which one to buy, can you trust the screen to last? Sadly, that's not always the answer. Based on our experience with all the foldable phones we've had access to since the first generation, we can confirm that while folding screens are cool, not all of them offer the best user experience. But it allows us to enjoy the feeling of a big screen in a small package.
Let's take a look! In this list, I detail the best performing foldable products we've tried and tested.
OPPO Find N2 Flip: the best foldable flip phone ever made
While the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has been most people's go-to flip-folding phone, we think it's been replaced by the OPPO Find N2.
It features the same general form factor as the Z Flip 4 and even comes in a very similar shade of purple, but it addresses some of the big questions about Samsung's foldable products.
The biggest improvement is the hinge, and more specifically, the ability to close completely flat and seamless. This protects the internal display from dust and other debris in your pockets, while making it look more premium than Samsung's option.
There's also a large 3.45-inch cover display, which not only provides a full camera preview compared to the secondary screens on other foldable phones, but also has widgets designed specifically for the OPPO cover display. This makes it even more useful, which means you won't have to open your phone as often.
On the fold, it's worth noting that the OPPO Find N2 Flip boasts one of the best hinge implementations to date, with the new Flexion hinge reducing the crease by as much as 60% compared to the already impressive original OPPO Find N . The end result is a crease that's barely noticeable when you look at it straight on, and feels only slightly different when you run your finger over it.
There's also an enhanced camera offering that includes a predominantly 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and the ability to shoot in 4K comes in handy, especially in the phone's special camera mode.
With the Dimensity 9000+'s top-notch performance, a 4300mAh battery that offers true all-day battery life, and a price that's cheaper than competing flip convertibles, you'll have a very attractive flip phone.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: The best waterproof foldable phone ever made
If you're in the market for a foldable phone with some sort of waterproofing feature, then your options are limited to the book-style Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and its flip-style Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.
The changes are minimal compared to the Z Flip 3. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a newer, faster Qualcomm chip built in, stronger glass and a slightly thinner display bezel.
The biggest update is the battery. The battery is now larger, and pairing it with a more efficient chipset really helps to improve range. While we slogged through the day with the Z Flip 3, we were able to get about 10% more power per day with this updated model, which made all the difference. It also charges faster, but you'll need to provide your own plug.
Samsung hasn't dramatically improved the performance of the camera. There are two more 12MP sensors on the back and another one inside, and they both take solid photos. Low-light is improved this time around thanks to a larger main sensor and more focus on low-light modes, but the lack of optical zoom means cropping isn't the best option.
The Cover Display offers a handy little display for checking notifications, following timers and skipping songs. It's not as feature-rich as the panels on the Moto Razr or OPPO Find N2 Flip, and you'll only be able to use Samsung-supported apps.
Motorola Razr (2022): the most nostalgic folding phone of all time
Motorola launched the Razr (2019), the first foldable phone to its classic Razr V3, in 2019, but the phone's mid-range specs left us wanting more. The Razr (2022) improves on many of the Razr (2019)'s shortcomings, making it, along with Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4, one of the best flip foldable phones available today .
Like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Razr has two screens - a 6.7-inch foldable display and a smaller front-covered screen. In Motorola's phone, the protective screen takes the form of a 2.7-inch quick-view display designed to show notifications, provide access to basic apps, and allow use of the camera without flipping the phone over.
The Razr replaces the chin and centered camera, aiming to evoke nostalgia for the 2019 model, in favor of a more seamless design with a dual-camera array in the corners.
The camera consists of a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor that produces crisp, clear images with vibrant colors and 8K video. There's also a third perforated camera on the inner screen for selfies and video calls - although you always have the option of using the quick-look display and rear-facing camera for even more clarity.
The Razr (2022) runs Android 12 and comes with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. This goes a step further than the 710 in the Razr (2019), bringing 5G connectivity, and the chip performed well in our benchmarks.
The phone comes with a 3500 mAh battery and supports 30W of fast charging, though there's still no wireless charging on board. The IP rating is also lower than its competitors, with only an IP52 waterproof rating to protect it.
However, the Razr (2022) is a powerful phone with many high-end specs at a lower price than the Z Flip 4.
Huawei P50 Pocke: the best camera phone ever
The Huawei P50 Pocket follows a similar blueprint to the Z Flip 3, using a foldable screen as a way to recreate the classic flip phone. Huawei's offering isn't as durable as Samsung's, but it does have a very good camera, a great display and a lovely design.
As is the case with Huawei phones, the camera is king here. I found the images to be very good, containing a lot of detail without adding much post-processing. Colors stay natural and vivid.
I also prefer the internal screen here to the one on the Samsung Z Flip 3, mostly because there's no very noticeable crease in the center. I really like how immersive the 6.9-inch OLED screen feels, especially when watching videos.
