The larger iPhones have never impressed me. For starters, they've never been as refined in their blend of design and display size as the larger models found in some of the best Android phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.However, the 6.1-inch displays of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro seem to fit in very well with the feature set and design philosophy of Apple's smartphones.

Despite this, the rumored iPhone 15 Pro Max is still the version I'm most excited about for the next generation of iPhones. That's in part because the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus look relatively bland.

Of course, they will come with a dynamic island display and a 48 MP primary camera. However, the former is not yet fully supported in a wide range of apps, while the latter is nothing special as we've seen 48 MP cameras in Apple phones before.

On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro may get some upgrades in terms of specs and possibly some design tweaks. However, if the rumors are true, I don't think the smaller sized Pro phone may be enough to pique my interest.

Instead, the iPhone 15 Pro Max does seem to be an amalgamation of all aspects and may be a much better choice.

6x optical zoom

For me, the most attractive option is the rumored new periscope telephoto camera, which is said to have a 6x optical zoom. While it may not be the most powerful option in the telephoto camera space, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, for example, offers a 10x optical zoom. But after trying out phones that come with 5x zoom lenses as well as 10x optical zoom, I think 6x could be the go-to option for those who love zoom photography.

I also have a vague feeling that whatever AI and neural processing intelligence the so-called A17 Bionic chip brings to the table, it will have an impact on the iPhone 15 Pro Max's telephoto camera.

I predict that by choosing the focus point with finesse, zoom lenses will be able to capture sharp, clear and well-balanced images that remain high quality when the photo is enlarged.

I also doubt that such a telephoto camera would be used to blend images taken by the main camera and the wide-angle camera almost seamlessly to provide sharper photos, especially in complex scenes.

Next, I noticed the new action button for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. I think this will be very useful for the former, but when used in conjunction with the new camera, it may play better on the latter phone.

Imagine using these action buttons to quickly switch between different photo modes while pointing iPhone 15 Pro Max at your subject. You can easily switch between filters, zoom levels, macro modes, and more without having to tap the display to keep your composition stable.

Additionally, it may be easier to perform these actions on a larger phone without having to interact directly with the screen. My repeated attempts to adjust camera settings on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra resulted in finger shifts that caused me to almost let the phone slip.

These new action buttons may add more convenience to the photography experience on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

Not just the edge.

When it comes to dropping the phone, it's predicted that the iPhone 15 Pro Max and its smaller siblings may feature titanium bezels, which could go some way to mitigating accidental drops.

Although my iPhone 13 Pro has withstood numerous bumps and knocks, with only one or two tiny dents causing some damage to its shiny frame, titanium is stronger than stainless steel. This should make the iPhone Pro Max more durable than previous versions.

Titanium is also lighter, which will help reduce the weight of Apple's largest phone, making it easier to hold and carry. The lighter weight also means that the phone is easier to use with one hand and may also reduce the likelihood of accidental drops. While people may accidentally drop their phones due to their natural clumsiness, the lighter design could provide a better grip.

The combination of these features, and the synergies I suspect they may have with each other, have me more excited than ever for the release of the Pro Max phone.

One possible issue, however, is the rumored price increase for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which could push the price out of what I consider a reasonable range. I sincerely hope that won't be the case and that Apple stays sensible when it comes to pricing, especially considering the rumors that have started to spread about the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

We'll find out soon enough, as Apple's September event is likely to take place in the next two to three weeks. I'm eagerly awaiting this moment and hope it lives up to my expectations.
