Hello! I’m Yuan Hehe. Please follow me for more exciting content. iPhone 18 leaks
If the current leaked information is accurate, Apple’s future iPhone release schedule may be adjusted. According to reports, the base model in the iPhone 18 series may debut in the spring of 2027, instead of the usual fall release. This change is also corroborated by some analytical reports.
Judging from the reasons, Apple may want to better allocate resources by staggering the release dates, while further strengthening the market performance of high-end models. In other words, the Pro and Pro Max versions are still likely to be launched at the traditional time to carry the main revenue and profit, while the standard version is split up and launched in the following spring to extend the product cycle and cover a longer sales window.
Regarding the product line, there are differing opinions. One view is that Apple may continue with the “Air” series and bring a second-generation iPhone Air, emphasizing a slim and lightweight design, positioned similarly to an ultra-thin flagship. However, there are also reports that this direction is subject to change, and may even be temporarily adjusted or abandoned, similar to previous rumors of Samsung canceling certain slim and lightweight models.
Meanwhile, another analyst report suggests a different possibility. Apple might not continue with the Air series, but instead reintroduce the “Plus” model, launching the iPhone 18 Plus. This would be the first time news of a Plus version’s return has surfaced since the iPhone 17 series. Let’s take a look.
iPhone 18: Price
A well-known leaker claims that Apple may surprise iPhone 18 buyers by not raising prices. At least, according to analysts, the tech giant is likely to try to keep prices stable.
Apple successfully implemented this strategy with the iPhone 17 series and the newly released iPhone 17e. This likely means that despite the current industry environment, Apple may keep the pricing of the iPhone 18 stable.
The current economic situation in the mobile phone industry is quite challenging. Due to the demand for generative AI, the industry is facing a shortage of memory chips, which in turn has led to price increases for these components. Unfortunately, this affects all smartphone manufacturers.
iPhone 18: Design
It’s possible that the overall design of the second-generation iPhone 18 will remain similar to previous models. One possible change is a slight adjustment to the camera control buttons.
Previous rumors suggested that Apple might completely eliminate the camera control button, but the latest leaks indicate that Apple may retain the button rather than remove it, and may make slight modifications.
The leaker suggests that the tech giant may remove the capacitive sensor from the button. Apple will reportedly switch to pressure-sensitive technology, simplifying the design without sacrificing functionality.
This new approach will be similar to the design on devices like the OPPO Find X8 Ultra. On this phone, pressure sensors can distinguish between light touches, hard presses, and swipe gestures.
The Face ID island on the front of the phone is unlikely to change. However, some early rumors suggested that the element might become smaller, as Apple was able to place part of the Face ID sensor under the screen. This was also a rumor surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro model.
However, most recent leaks claim that the Lingdong Island design will remain unchanged for the 18 series. Furthermore, we expect it to retain the same “glass sandwich” structure.
The colors haven’t been leaked yet, but we expect some new and potentially trendy colors. Rumors suggest Apple is experimenting with some unconventional colors for the Pro models, which may or may not affect the color options for the base 18 series.
iPhone 18: Display
It is also likely that the second-generation iPhone 18 will adopt the same 6.3-inch OLED Super Retina XDR screen as its predecessor, which is the same size as the iPhone 17’s display, but the bezels will be narrower.
One of the major upgrades in the iPhone 17 was the ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate, a feature previously exclusive to the Pro models. Now, the regular models also come with this feature, and the iPhone 18 is expected to retain it. This feature makes all operations, from swiping to animations, feel smoother and also supports always-on display functionality.
We haven’t heard of any major changes to the display division yet. However, the iPhone 18 will still feature a beautiful and high-end display as always.
iPhone 18: Camera
There are currently no leaks regarding the iPhone 18’s camera system. Most rumors focus on the Pro models, mentioning upgrades such as a variable aperture on the iPhone 18 Pro, but everything about the base iPhone 18 remains largely confidential.
On the other hand, the iPhone 17 brought some significant camera upgrades, likely accompanied by a second generation. It featured a brand-new 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and an upgraded selfie lens with “center-view” functionality. Given these major upgrades, Apple will likely continue to use the same camera configuration in the iPhone 18.
There are also rumors that we might see the front-facing camera upgraded to 24 megapixels. Expected camera configuration for the iPhone 18: 48-megapixel main camera, 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and 24-megapixel Center Stage front-facing camera.
For reference only, this iPhone 17 performed excellently in our camera tests. The iPhone 17’s camera exhibited excellent dynamic range in well-lit scenes and good low-light performance. As for video, the iPhone 17 supports up to 4K@60fps, which, while not as high as the Pro models’ 120fps, is still great for the average user.
iPhone 18: Storage Space
iPhone 18 expected storage capacities: 256 GB, 512 GB. In 2025, Apple discontinued the entry-level 128GB storage option for the iPhone 17, allowing consumers to choose between 256GB or 512GB. The same storage options may also apply to other models.
However, for those seeking high-capacity storage, the base model iPhone in 2027 may not offer a 1TB option. Meanwhile, rumors suggest that even the base iPhone 18 will come with 12GB of RAM.
iPhone 18: Chip and Battery
The second-generation iPhone 17 will likely also feature a 3692mAh battery. In terms of performance, it outperforms the iPhone 16 in both performance optimization and battery life, while Apple’s new Apple Intelligence-driven battery features can further help you save power. We expect these features to appear on the iPhone 18, and possibly even be improved.
The iPhone 18 will be equipped with a 2nm A20 chip, which will be a highly efficient chip. This will also help extend the iPhone’s battery life. Nevertheless, the iPhone still lags behind some competitors in terms of battery capacity.
Apple may be planning to change this. Recent rumors suggest that Apple is developing a new battery specifically designed for the iPhone 18. Clues indicate that this could be a “pure silicon” battery, a completely new technology on the market.
Rumors suggest Apple plans to do this to celebrate the symbolic significance of this 20th-anniversary model. It remains unclear whether this technology will be implemented in time for the iPhone 18 or whether Apple will even pursue this path at all.
Meanwhile, rumors suggest that iOS 27 will also improve iPhone battery life. As for its predecessor, in my battery life tests, the iPhone 17 performed similarly to the iPhone 16, lasting 16 hours and 47 minutes of continuous web browsing, 7 hours and 19 minutes of video streaming, and 7 hours and 40 minutes of gaming.
Should I wait for the iPhone 18?
Whether or not it’s necessary to wait for the iPhone 18 depends on your current device and how urgent it is for you to upgrade. If you’re still using an iPhone 15 or an earlier model, the next generation will likely offer noticeable improvements in performance, imaging, and battery life.
However, if you are already satisfied with the configuration and experience of the iPhone 17 series, there is no need to deliberately wait for the next generation. Based on the previous upgrade cycle, the difference between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 is unlikely to be a generational leap.
Furthermore, if you urgently need a new phone right now, there’s no need to delay your decision because of an unreleased product. After all, there’s still some time before the iPhone 18 is released. Rather than waiting a long time, it’s better to choose a mature and stable model that directly meets your current needs.
