Those who have read reports that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has allegedly gotten a huge new cover screen may have been expecting a similarly far-reaching redesign for the larger Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, several new renders posted on social media by analysts on the web suggest that the upcoming foldable product will continue to feature essentially the same design for the third year in a row.<\/p>\n

It's clear that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 borrows key inspiration from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which is itself a derivative of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.<\/p>\n

The tall, slim profile (when closed) is obvious, and although the publication claims that this new phone is actually shorter, at just 154.9 mm tall, the 0.2 mm reduction will hardly change the level of bulkiness for one-handed use - not least because the unchanged width of 67.1 mm still results in a rather narrow screen cover.<\/p>\n

Also recognizable is the pill-shaped camera bump on the back, which houses the main camera, the ultra-wide-angle camera, and the 3x telephoto camera. Samsung has at least moved the flash away from the bottom of the camera bump, possibly making room for a larger image sensor.<\/p>\n

Hopefully this means that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will eventually share its main camera with the S Ultra lineup for the first time, in this case the excellent 200 MP main camera from the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.<\/p>\n

The biggest difference between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is of course the hinge. Samsung seems to be taking inspiration from Oppo, Honor, Huawei and others in the foldable market.<\/p>\n

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will move to a teardrop folding screen, which not only makes the phone fold flat (eliminating the gap near the hinge), but also significantly shallower creases. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will also be thinner, at 13.4 millimeters, while the Z Fold 4 tapers from 15.8 to 14.2 millimeters.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 should have essentially the same specs, including a 6.2-inch shell screen and a 7.6-inch internal display, both featuring AMOLED with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate; the internal display is expected to be much brighter than the current model's 1,200 nits peak. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 may also remain one of the few foldable smartphones with an IPX8 waterproof rating.<\/p>\n

You can expect the usual hardware bumps, including an upgrade to Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Samsung Galaxy chips (the same chip found in the Samsung Galaxy S23), LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage.<\/p>\n

There's no mention of battery capacity, but we can expect a slight increase over the existing 4,400mAh, while maintaining Qi wireless charging and hopefully adding wired fast charging to the 25W of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.<\/p>\n

Samsung may also move up the release of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 (and the accompanying Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5) from the usual August timeline - we could see the foldable as early as July.<\/p>\n
