The Honor Magic V6 is one of the most anticipated foldable phones of the year. Last year, the Magic V5 had already narrowed the gap with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, but in terms of overall experience, I still felt that Samsung was slightly more reliable. But with the Magic V6, that gap may really need to be recalculated.<\/span><\/p>\n

With a larger battery, a new-generation flagship chip, stylus support, and an still incredibly thin and light body, Honor has clearly made more than just minor upgrades this time. At least based on these changes, the Magic V6 is now ready to compete with Samsung again for the top spot in the large folding phone market.<\/span><\/p>\n

Honor Magic V6: Design and Core Functions<\/span><\/h1>\n

What surprised me most about the Magic V6 was its protection. It supports IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance, with an official waterproof depth of up to 4 meters. The internal structure of a foldable screen is inherently more complex than that of a regular phone, so achieving this level of protection is quite remarkable.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, once you actually hold it in your hand, the most noticeable thing is its thinness. The Snow White version is only 4.0mm when unfolded and 8.75mm when folded, weighing approximately 219g. Especially when unfolded, the entire body is so thin that it’s almost the same thickness as the Type-C port, which is the most striking feature of the Magic V6 at first glance.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are four color options: Red Rabbit, Sunrise Gold, Snow White, and Velvet Black. I personally prefer Red Rabbit; it looks less business-like and is more distinctive on a foldable screen.<\/span><\/p>\n

The system uses MagicOS 10, which is mainly built around YOYO. Features like AI meeting minutes, real-time transcription, and photo-to-document conversion are quite suitable for a large foldable phone, especially after unfolding the inner screen. It’s definitely more convenient than a regular phone for handling meetings, spreadsheets, and documents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Honor Magic V6: Display<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Magic V6’s screen remains consistently excellent, featuring a 6.52-inch external screen and a 7.95-inch internal screen when unfolded. Both screens support a 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate. In daily use, whether browsing messages on the external screen or watching videos and processing documents when unfolded, the smoothness is impeccable.<\/span><\/p>\n

What I really like is its handling of bright light environments. The external HDR peak brightness reaches 6000 nits, and the internal screen also has 5000 nits. In addition, with a lower screen reflectivity, it’s much easier to read messages or preview photos directly under the sun.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regarding the crease that everyone is most concerned about, the Magic V6 still cannot completely eliminate it, but it is not easily noticeable when using it normally from the front. The crease will only become more obvious when viewed from a different angle, or when the screen displays a large area of \u200b\u200bdark content.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another feature I found quite useful is that both the inner and outer screens support a stylus. With a large foldable screen approaching 8 inches, using it only for watching videos is somewhat wasteful. Honor Magic V6: Performance and Battery Life<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Magic V6 is equipped with a fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Ultra processor with a maximum clock speed of 4.6GHz. For a foldable screen of this caliber, performance is no longer a major concern. It handles everyday multitasking, split-screen use, and even some demanding games without feeling like it’s sacrificing performance for its slim and lightweight design.<\/span><\/p>\n

What really impressed me was the battery.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 16GB+1TB version boasts a 7150mAh battery, while other versions offer 6850mAh. And let’s not forget, this is still a large foldable phone that’s only 8.75mm thinnest when folded. Previously, when aiming for a thinner foldable screen, the battery was often the first compromise; the Magic V6 has significantly mitigated this long-standing issue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charging capabilities haven’t been compromised despite the slim design; 80W wired and 66W wireless charging is more than enough for such a large battery. More than benchmark scores, I care about this change \u2013 the phone is already thin, but the battery life doesn’t need to be “thinner” along with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Honor Magic V6: Camera<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Magic V6 doesn’t offer any major changes to its camera setup, still featuring a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64MP periscope telephoto lens. In fact, compared to its predecessor, the ultra-wide-angle lens aperture has been reduced from f\/2.0 to f\/2.2. So, looking at the specifications alone, this generation doesn’t offer any real surprises.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fortunately, the original foundation is still there. The main camera is quite stable in daytime shooting, the colors are still pleasing, and it doesn’t collapse in night scenes. What I really prefer to use is the 3x periscope telephoto lens, which makes portraits or distant objects look much more natural than the hard cropping of the main camera.<\/span><\/p>\n

A maximum zoom of 100x sounds impressive, but that’s just a figure of speech. In actual shooting, I’m more concerned with the effects of 3x, 5x, or even 10x zoom, as these focal lengths are the ones I truly use in everyday life. As for AI telephoto enhancement, it’s fine for occasionally saving distant scenes, but if the processing is too heavy, the photos will somewhat “not look like photos.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The video recording supports up to 4K 60fps, which is more than enough for everyday recording. However, more professional video features like 8K and Log are not included. The Magic V6’s camera isn’t the biggest upgrade of this generation, but at least it hasn’t sacrificed image quality despite the increasingly thinner body.<\/span><\/p>\n

Honor Magic V6: The Last<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Magic V6 isn’t the kind of foldable screen that excels in every aspect; the camera upgrade this time wasn’t significant, and there’s still room for improvement in video capabilities. But in real-world use, I don’t think these issues are as important as I might have imagined.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because it truly solves the most perplexing aspects of large folding phones: a thin enough body, controlled weight, a large enough battery, and no performance compromise due to its slimness and lightness. It feels more like using a normal phone, rather than a folding screen that requires you to constantly accommodate its design.<\/span><\/p>\n

So if I had to choose a large foldable phone again this year, the Magic V6 would definitely be near the top. It may not surpass Samsung in every aspect, but this time, Honor can hardly be seen as a mere follower anymore.<\/span><\/p>\n
