Hello, hello! I am Yuan Hehe, please follow me, more exciting content is waiting for you iPhone 17 Pro Max
Photography has always been the iPhone’s strong point, so I’ve always kept an eye on the iPhone. But every year, I’m faced with two choices: should I choose the standard-sized iPhone Pro or the larger iPhone Pro Max?
For several years, the latter has included photo features not found on the regular iPhone Pro, such as the 5x zoom unique to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As we approach the reveal of the next iPhone 17 lineup, I’m once again choosing between the two sizes. Based on what I’ve heard, this could be the year with the biggest update yet. Here are some of the leaked features of the iPhone 17 Pro Max that I’m most curious about.
Make everything bigger
Compared with other product lines, the iPhone Pro Max is like an armored vehicle. Although it has not reached the extreme ruggedness of the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 7 Pro, it can be said to be a mid-size SUV in the smartphone world. It has always been known for its larger screen, wider body and more internal space.
This also includes a larger battery. According to a credible leaker, the Pro Max model already has a more spacious battery compartment than other models, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s battery compartment may be further increased in thickness, reaching nearly 8.725mm . Who would actively ask for a thicker iPhone? Actually, someone does.
In iOS 26, Apple also introduced a new “Adaptive Power” feature. This technology uses AI to more intelligently allocate power and optimize energy consumption in high-load scenarios. This may mean that even if the actual battery capacity remains unchanged, the battery life can be extended, especially when you can’t find a charger.
For those who are accustomed to or prefer using large-screen mobile phones, the heaviness of Pro Max may no longer be a problem, and even the sturdier body has become a preference.
Another subtle change is that the iPhone 17 Pro’s case design is rumored to slightly shift Apple’s iconic logo from its current position. While this change is minor, it’s a boon for users of transparent MagSafe cases—the logo will now be centered within the MagSafe ring, creating a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing design. This demonstrates Apple’s dedication to design excellence.
Some whistleblowers have posted photos of what are suspected to be iPhone 17 Pro protective cases online, but it is still unclear whether these are hand-crafted models based on rumors or some kind of early imitation versions.
Fully upgraded camera system
Based on CAD renderings released by a well-known leaker, we have to mention the upcoming camera upgrade. This time, the camera module appears to be larger, possibly evolving into a “camera island” spanning the entire width of the body—while on the larger iPhone 17 Pro Max, it is more like a “camera continent.” Previously, someone also took a photo of what appears to be an Apple employee holding a test device, and its appearance also matches multiple leaks.
One of the highlights of this expansion may be the upgraded 48-megapixel telephoto lens—a change that’s long overdue. Previously limited to the main camera, this specification has finally been added to the telephoto system. This new lens may also use “pixel fusion” technology, like the main camera of the current iPhone 16 Pro series: merging multiple pixels to improve low-light imaging performance.
However, considering that the current 48-megapixel main camera has brought significant improvements in image quality – even the single-camera iPhone 16e uses this photosensitive element – if the telephoto lens is also upgraded to the same level, it will undoubtedly make photography enthusiasts happy.
The front-facing camera has also seen an improvement, with its resolution expected to increase from 12 megapixels to 24 megapixels. This means your selfies will be clearer and more detailed. While this may seem like a small change, it could potentially translate into improved Face ID accuracy, video calling experience, and even AR interactions.
A new breakthrough in movable lenses
I’m highlighting this camera rumor because it could indicate a major leap forward for the iPhone’s camera system. According to a leaker’s report, the iPhone 17 Pro could feature a lens with up to 8x optical zoom.
That’s not all, as its lens is said to have a “movable” structure, meaning that between 5x and 8x, users may be able to enjoy a true optical zoom transition – rather than relying on digital zoom to simulate a magnification effect by cropping and stretching the image.
The current iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Pro Max all use 5x optical zoom, using the so-called “quadruple prism” structure design.
This approach achieves greater telephoto capabilities while still maintaining a reasonable lens thickness. However, if the variable optical structure of the iPhone 17 Pro is true, it would mean that Apple may have found a new engineering method to further expand the practicality of the telephoto range without sacrificing volume.
Video shooting takes a leap forward
The iPhone 17 series is rumored to introduce dual-camera video recording in the native Camera app, allowing the front and rear cameras to work simultaneously. This will undoubtedly be beneficial for recording interviews, reaction videos, and other scenarios, allowing users to capture both sides of the conversation simultaneously. While some third-party apps already implement similar features, Apple has not yet enabled this option in the default system.
This feature may not have much impact on ordinary users’ daily shooting, but as imaging technology continues to evolve, its appearance is particularly meaningful.
Another upgrade that may be more eye-catching is support for 8K video recording. According to the whistleblower, Apple had tried 8K video capabilities when testing the iPhone 16 Pro, and on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, this capability may finally become a reality.
Improved cooling system
Even recording 4K video—let alone 8K—is a demanding task for a phone, often causing it to overheat. In already hot environments, an iPhone might even shut down due to excessive heat. Therefore, while most users can’t see the internals, a more efficient cooling system can significantly improve the user experience.
According to a leaker, the iPhone 17 Pro may use a “vapor chamber” cooling system. This design is not new and has long been used in many high-performance devices, but if it is first launched on the iPhone, it will be of great significance. It works like this: when the processor generates heat, the liquid in the vapor chamber will quickly evaporate near the heat source and condense in a cooler area, then flow back to the heat source, forming a continuous cycle to effectively remove heat.
For users who frequently shoot high-resolution videos or run large applications, this upgrade, although invisible to the naked eye, will bring more stable performance and less heat problems.
Wi-Fi 7 and the next generation of Apple modems bring faster connections
For ordinary users, the update of cellular network and Wi-Fi protocols may not be apparent or easy to notice. However, it is a significant upgrade on the technical level.
The iPhone 16e is equipped with Apple’s in-house C1 cellular modem, marking Apple’s first attempt to break free from its reliance on Qualcomm modems and taking a key step toward developing its own wireless chips. However, the C1 chip does not support high-speed millimeter wave networks and is incompatible with the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. While it excels in power consumption, this compromise is acceptable for an entry-level model.
But when we turn our attention to the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max, the situation is completely different. As the flagship among flagships, it must have the latest and fastest wireless communication technology in 2025, otherwise it will be difficult to live up to the “Pro” positioning.
From a practical perspective, Apple is likely to continue using Qualcomm’s modems—at least during the transition period to ensure stable performance. However, some analysts believe that Apple’s C2 chip is under intensive development and may be available soon.
In addition, according to the whistleblower, Wi-Fi 7 support may not rely on a modem, but may be provided by a dedicated chip designed independently by Apple. This will further enhance the wireless capabilities of the iPhone, whether in a home network environment or in a high-load, multi-device connected office scenario.
Pro Max now has a new “ginger orange” color, who can refuse it?
If you also like orange, you might be tempted by this. A well-known whistleblower recently released a set of renderings of new iPhone 17 Pro colors, and the most eye-catching one is the bright ginger orange. Not only is it a bold orange, but also because it will break the cold and soft color scheme that Apple has been accustomed to in recent years, making it particularly eye-catching.
In addition, there are rumors that the iPhone 17 series will launch a new sky blue color. I have to say that I have some opinions on this – it’s not that it’s not beautiful, but in comparison, the ginger orange has more personality. On some occasions, I would rather not put on a phone case just to boldly show this uncommon and highly recognizable color.
Of course, there are far more rumors about the iPhone 17 Pro than these, but for now, these are enough to make me start looking forward to the release of the iPhone 17 series of mobile phones.
