An industry analyst recently compiled a report based on supply chain trends. Although it has not been officially confirmed by Apple, this type of information often comes from within the industry chain and has certain reference value for future product directions.

The report indicates that Apple is preparing to launch several new iPhones in the coming years, with the most anticipated being the long-rumored foldable model. Additionally, a new product called the iPhone Air 2 is also in the planning stages.

Regarding the foldable iPhone, this leak provides a fairly clear timeline: Apple may officially release the device in the second half of 2026.

What’s particularly noteworthy is that this foldable phone seems to be forgoing Face ID, opting instead for a 24-megapixel under-display front-facing camera. The specifications also include a second 24-megapixel selfie camera of the same specifications, widely speculated to be for the foldable outer screen.

As for the rear camera, leaked information suggests it will use a dual 48MP setup, including an ultra-wide-angle lens, but no telephoto module. For an iPhone, this camera specification is fairly basic; however, considering the strict limitations on the thickness and structure of foldable phones, Apple’s simplified design is not surprising.

What is Air?

Reports suggest that Apple is quietly developing a new product line, with the “iPhone Air” being one part of it. According to the latest supply chain updates compiled by industry analysts, Apple appears to be planning this “ultra-thin design” model as a long-term project.

The report not only mentioned the iPhone Air 2, but even the release window of the iPhone Air 3 was leaked in advance, showing that Apple has not backed down on this product line due to market feedback.

Despite recent discussions suggesting that the original iPhone Air’s market performance wasn’t particularly impressive, even being compared to the lackluster sales of the iPhone 16 Plus, this feedback doesn’t seem to have shaken Apple’s direction. The company clearly still believes that ultra-thin models have their own audience and positioning, therefore it hasn’t considered discontinuing the series, but instead continues to iterate according to the original schedule.

According to this analyst report, Apple plans to launch the iPhone Air 2 in 2026, followed by the iPhone Air 3 in 2027. This means that this product line will continue to maintain a one-year update cycle, keeping a relatively consistent update frequency with the main iPhone series.

Regarding camera specifications, leaks suggest that the second and third generations will still use a single 48MP main camera. Compared to today’s flagship phones that often feature triple or quad cameras, this configuration is indeed not considered luxurious.

From a design perspective, the iPhone Air’s focus wasn’t on piling on features, but rather on maintaining a basic imaging performance while keeping the body extremely thin. In other words, Apple seems to have chosen to continue prioritizing body thickness rather than further expanding the space for the camera module.

Furthermore, the report also mentions that Apple will make some adjustments to the release date of the iPhone 18 series. Previous rumors now seem more credible: the iPhone 18e in the iPhone 18 family has been delayed until 2027, while other regular models will still follow the usual practice and be released in September 2026. Apple is clearly readjusting its product cycle, creating a clearer positioning and differentiation between its various product lines.

Overall, if this information is true, Apple’s iPhone product line in the next few years will be more “multi-layered” than it is now: foldable phones will take an innovative approach, the Air will emphasize thinness and lightness, the main line will continue to be steady and reliable, while the entry-level model may have its timeline rearranged.

This will give consumers more segmented options when making a choice, and it also shows that Apple is repositioning the different forms of iPhone for the next few years.
