If money is no object, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best smartphone you can buy right now. Samsung has capitalized on the hefty price tag to deliver an excellent user experience with no real weaknesses.

There's also a host of key benefits, from the incredible overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance to the five different camera lenses, each with their own specialties.

You still have the gorgeous 6.8-inch AMOLED display and built-in S Pen, but as far as battery life goes, this is still a phone that will last two days for many people.

What's more, the software experience is the best it's ever been, with a slick One UI skin and seven years of OS and security updates on Android 14. A selection of genuinely useful AI features is the icing on the cake.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's price and big, bulky design isn't for everyone. But it's the most complete smartphone you can get only at a high price.

iPhone 15 Pro: the best iPhone

The iPhone 15 Pro has a series of small changes that combine to make a major upgrade. There's a new titanium construction that's durable but significantly lighter, and a new customizable action button to replace the mute switch.

Apple's A17 Pro chipset is the most powerful chipset in any smartphone, delivering truly outstanding performance, and the introduction of USB-C is certainly another step forward.

The 6.1-inch display is relatively compact by modern phone standards, but it looks great and benefits from a 120Hz refresh rate. Battery life is generally solid, but you'll still have to put up with slow charging rates.

But despite the lack of 5x optical zoom on the telephoto lens, the all-around photo experience is top-notch. Many apps now support really useful dynamic islands, and iOS 16 is as smooth and intuitive as ever.

For most people, the iPhone 15 Pro is the best option in Apple's 2023 smartphone lineup.

OnePlus 12: A great all-around phone

The OnePlus 12 is much more expensive than the OnePlus 11, which means it no longer earns the title of best value flagship. However, it's still less expensive than most flagships, but offers everything most people look for in a smartphone.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is a great performer, while the 120Hz AMOLED screen offers a top-notch viewing experience. Even the main and telephoto cameras are now among the best.

However, the wide angle and selfie cameras still leave something to be desired. Battery life is long and it's nice to see 100W fast charging now combined with fast 50W wireless charging.OnePlus's OxygenOS skin is still very good best performance is somewhat underwhelming.

But all in all, the OnePlus 12 is an excellent smartphone that's easy to recommend. If you're looking for a foldable phone, consider the OnePlus Open.

Xiaomi 14: Best camera phone

The Xiaomi 14 is the best phone the Chinese company has made for most people. Its starting price is lower than many of its competitors, but it offers a top-notch user experience in many areas.

This includes the cameras, which take some of the best photos we've ever seen on a smartphone. It's also impressively versatile thanks to its high-quality main lens, ultra-wide-angle lens, 3.2x telephoto lens, and selfie lens.

Other key benefits include the great performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the gorgeous 120Hz AMOLED screen, and the fast 90W charger included in the box. Battery life is also solid.

However, despite the new name for Xiaomi's software experience, HyperOS is frustratingly similar to its predecessor, MIUI. Aside from the rear's tendency to leave fingerprints, this is the only real reason not to buy this phone, but for some, it will be a deal breaker.

iPhone 15: The iPhone for the Common Man

There are two upgrades that make the regular iPhone 15 instantly superior to the 2022 iPhone 14. The introduction of USB-C makes the device even more versatile, allowing you to easily connect a range of different accessories.

Then there's the Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped cutout for displaying all sorts of useful information - it used to be exclusive to the Pro model.

The iPhone 15 is otherwise very similar, but that's usually not a bad thing. The A16 bionic chip offers small improvements in performance and energy efficiency, the latter of which helps extend battery life.

With smooth iOS software and a quality build, it's the best value iPhone 15 model you can buy. But if a higher refresh rate display or fast charging are important to you, you'll be better off elsewhere.
