King Confrontation! Xiaomi 14 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro Max: both with titanium, Apple or bust

Hello, how are you? I am the original huh, click on the attention, more exciting content waiting for you!

When Apple launched the iPhone 15 series, the world marveled at the new titanium bezel on the Pro models. This was almost unheard of on a mainstream smartphone. Well, the good times are over as Xiaomi has also launched its latest flagship lineup and it too has a titanium version available.

-

Today I am going to do a preliminary comparison between iPhone 15 Pro Max and Xiaomi 14 Pro. Can Xiaomi 14 Pro challenge the iPhone 15 Pro Max?Read on to find out!

Design and dimensions

The two phones are more similar than one would expect. The overall size, weight, thickness and materials are very similar. Even the camera bump location and overall shape are similar. However, there are a few design differences worth mentioning.

-

Like most of the flagship phones in the market, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro also features a curved screen. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a straight display. Both are protected by tempered glass; the iPhone has Apple's proprietary ceramic shielding, while Xiaomi relies on Dragon Crystal glass, another material developed in-house.

-

For the front camera, the iPhone 15 Pro Max features a pill-shaped cutout, while Xiaomi has a perforated design. Another difference is the retail box; Xiaomi is expected to include a quick charger in the box, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with only a USB-C cable.

Display Differences

Another very similar area is the display. Both phones come with 6.7-inch OLED panels with variable refresh rates and very high brightness.

-

At least in terms of specs, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro has a small advantage with a resolution of 1440 x 3200 and a pixel density of 522 ppi. on the other hand, the iPhone has a resolution of 1290 x 2796 pixels and 460 ppi.

Peak brightness is another area where the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro may surpass the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The tech giant company boasts a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, which is much higher than the 2,000 nits Apple cites for the iPhone. Of course, as I run some tests, I'll find the missing pieces of the puzzle, so stay tuned.

-

As far as biometrics are concerned, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro comes with an under-screen fingerprint reader while the iPhone relies on FaceID. i prefer the former, which is safe and secure.

Performance and Software

Unsurprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro comes with Qualcomm's latest chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. I have some idea of the chip's performance. It was officially unveiled not too long ago and there are some Geekbench scores (including Xiaomi devices, actually) out there. I'll need to run my own tests, but it looks like it's an even match between the two.

-

When it comes to storage and RAM, the situation is similar, with the exception of the amount of RAM on the Xiaomi. However, iOS and iPhone are known to be better optimized in general and require less RAM to run smoothly, so overall performance should be very similar.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro will come with Xiaomi Surge OS pre-installed, while the iPhone will come with iOS 17. I'm not sure how many years Xiaomi will provide major OS updates, so I'll have to wait and see again.

Camera

This year, Apple decided to join the zoom wars with a new quad-prism lens built into the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Xiaomi, on the other hand, has been using a periscope zoom lens for a while now, and the Xiaomi 14 Pro is no exception. The new feature, however, is the variable aperture on the main camera - something I first saw on the Huawei Mate 50 Pro.

-

The 50MP sensor is located just below the diaphragm and can range from f/1.42 to f/4.0 as needed. You can find the full specs for all three cameras in the table below, but the main cameras look very similar in terms of sensor size and focal length.

-

Xiaomi comes with a 50MP ultra wide-angle camera and another 50MP telephoto camera (3.2x optical zoom), while the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with two 12MP cameras. The number of pixels doesn't guarantee a higher quality photo, so it's better to wait until you actually use it to get a better pair, right?

Battery life and charging

The Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro comes with a 4880mAh battery and supports 120W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. The company advertises that wired charging takes 18 minutes and wireless charging takes 40 minutes. Xiaomi wins in this category without a doubt.

-

The iPhone 15 Pro Max retains the same charging speeds as its predecessor; despite coming with a new USB-C charging port, I'm talking about wired charging in 30 minutes and 15W wireless charging with the 50%.

Summary

This one is just too hard! The Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro is becoming a very competitive device and a high-end phone. With its super bright, crisp screen, powerful camera system, fast chipset and amazing charging capabilities, this phone is the true incarnation of an Android flagship. And let me not forget the Titanium option.

-

On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is certainly the phone to beat. In some areas, it may lag behind on paper.

But one thing I've learned over the years is that you shouldn't rely too much on spec sheets. I would need to run all the tests on the Xiaomi 14 Pro to give you a final verdict.
