Hello there! I am the original huh, click to follow, more exciting content waiting for you!
Wireless headphones have come a long way in the last five years. When Apple did away with the headphone cords for the ubiquitous EarPods, the rest of the market followed suit with truly wireless headphones.
There are so many options for these types of headphones today. For most of the past two weeks, I've carried the best headphones on the market in my person, and then here are three of my recommended headphones, which one do you like?
Best all-around: Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation)
Thanks to impressive spatial audio, incredible noise cancellation, and a full complement of features, the Apple AirPods Pro remains one of the best all-around headphone products for everyone (not just Apple users).
With Apple's excellent build quality and seamless connectivity to Apple devices, almost everything in the AirPods lineup could have a place on this list, but the AirPods Pro lives up to its Pro credentials with a number of additional features.
First, noise cancellation and audio quality. Apple has obviously invested countless dollars in audio research to provide some of the best adaptive noise cancellation technology available. It succeeds in eliminating ambient noise.
In-game sound quality is also impressive, thanks in part to Apple's new adaptive and spatial audio features that map sound to your surroundings and ear shape. Really thanks to the H2 chip.
I've found that every style of music I play on my AirPods is excellent, so whether you like classic rock, hip-hop, audiobooks, and more, you'll be happy here.
Then there's build quality, fit and finish. The high price is undoubtedly backed up by the build quality, from the satisfying snap of the battery compartment to the feel of the headphones.
Another thing to note is that while Apple promises up to 30 hours of use from the included battery case, I'm trending closer to 20-25 hours.
It's not a big deal, as it's still an impressive total, but the battery life will probably be less than the advertised time in real-world use.
But all in all, if you like the design and form factor here, then the functionality will also be obvious, and you'll find that the AirPods Pro will deliver across the board.
Also great: Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones
Bose is back with a clean, focused design solution for audio quality and noise cancellation, now with a new design and a relatively affordable price.
If you're looking for active noise cancellation, then you need to look at Bose's line of headphones. Starting with the QuietComfort headphones a few years ago, I've always found Bose's tailored approach to adaptive noise cancellation to be the most natural and comfortable for my ears.
Their latest product, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones can work very well in most situations. I used the Bose QuietComfort Ultra in a variety of situations. In all cases, the headphones gracefully blocked out distracting noises without interfering with the music I was listening to.
Speaking of which, the sound quality here is impressive across all genres I listen to regularly. The audio response for rock and pop music is very consistent and adds to the album. I also found the Bose QuietComfort Ultra to be excellent for audiobooks, providing pleasing focus and clarity to spoken word.
It's all thanks to Bose's equalization methods, but you can use the Bose Music app to customize the sound to your liking.
The comfort provided by the headphones is also impressive. The high-quality casing closes quickly, and the small rubberized ear flaps extend and grip the outside of my ears tightly, helping to keep the headphones in my ears.
The headphones themselves have an impressive 6 hours of battery life, but the headphone case only consistently provides an additional 10 to 12 hours of battery life, so they're not the best in the category. However, for the ANC experience and sound quality alone, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra are well worth the price. They are almost half the price of Apple's premium products.
Easiest budget: the Redmi Buds 6S
Rich sound configurations, truly top-notch battery life and unique design choices make the Redmi Buds 6S an easy purchase for those on a budget.
I've been a fan of the Redmi Buds 6S for years, an approach that strikes a nice balance between a budget-friendly price point and surprisingly good-sounding speakers and headphones. the Redmi Buds 6S does a good job of setting a good example.
What I noticed is their design: a nice set of colors are offered as well as an interesting combination of smooth and matte surfaces. I even like the way the headphones tilt in the charging case, as they are easier to remove than some other types of battery charging cases.
Speaking of the battery, this is one of the standout features. These headphones allow for about 7 hours of continuous listening on a single charge, which is an impressive total time and seemed accurate in my testing. But when you put them back in their charging case, you can charge them and get up to 33 hours of battery life out of them.
Then there's the sound quality. I wasn't surprised to find a balanced spectrum that might lean too much towards the bass side. I found it particularly effective for rock mixes, providing power and detail. It also offers impressive adaptive noise cancellation, allowing me to stay focused while working in a noisy coffee shop.
Of course, you won't find premium sound processing features like those found in more expensive products from Apple or Bose. However, for the price, the Redmi Buds 6S is truly impressive.
Admittedly, the construction does feel a bit plasticky, but that helps keep them lightweight. Whether you're on a budget or not, the Redmi Buds 6S has you covered.
