Redmi’s pace this time might be more aggressive than many people expect. According to current leaks, the Redmi K100 series is expected to be released as early as the third quarter of 2026, or even as early as September. This means it will likely clash head-on with the Xiaomi 18 series.

This arrangement is quite unusual. In the past, Redmi and Xiaomi flagship phones typically had staggered release dates to avoid internal product line interference. However, the release date of Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chip seems to have changed the entire rhythm.

Current reports suggest that the Redmi K100 Pro Max will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, also known as the new SM8975 platform, and will utilize TSMC’s 2nm process. Qualcomm is highly likely to officially release this chip in September, so Redmi may also release it ahead of schedule.

However, the standard K100 is even more interesting. Leaks suggest it may continue to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the same platform as the current K90 Pro Max. Simply put, this generation of the standard version may not focus on performance upgrades, but rather on improvements to the screen, battery, and camera.

In addition, some news about the top-of-the-line version has begun to emerge. It’s said that the K100 Pro Max may be the first to use LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage, with overall specifications that are more aggressive than before. There are even rumors that Xiaomi may be internally testing a new model with a 7-inch 2K screen and a 10000mAh battery, although this information has not yet been confirmed.

If these leaks come true, then this generation of Redmi’s product line may really start to look less like a “cost-effective flagship” and more like a true top-performance flagship.

Scheduling issues that neither brand wants

The most awkward thing this time is not the Redmi K100 series itself, but that Xiaomi and Redmi may have truly encountered an “internal scheduling conflict” for the first time.

For many years, Xiaomi and Redmi have maintained a clear rhythm. Xiaomi’s flagship models typically lean towards the high-end market, emphasizing imaging, design, and brand positioning; while Redmi launches slightly later, focusing on performance and cost-effectiveness. Although the two product lines have similar configurations, their release dates are always deliberately staggered.

However, if the Redmi K100 series really does launch in September, the whole situation will be different. It will likely directly compete with the Xiaomi 18 series. The problem is, both might even use the same flagship platform this time. For many users who prioritize performance, battery life, and high-end hardware, the Redmi K100 Pro Max will undoubtedly be very attractive.

The Xiaomi 18 series will continue to emphasize imaging, Leica tuning, and a more refined software experience. Simply put, for the first time, both companies are truly competing for the same user base.
