Hello! I’m Yuan Hehe. Please follow me for more exciting content. Huawei Pura X Max leaks
The foldable screen market is no longer just about Apple and Samsung “setting the pace.” Huawei’s actions in the past two years have become increasingly aggressive, especially in the area of large-size foldable screens, where it is clearly trying to reach more extreme forms.
The Pura X Max, which has been teased recently, is a prime example. Huawei has confirmed that it will unveil this device at its April 20th launch event and has also released a teaser video that showcases its basic design. Based on current information, this phone is generating considerable buzz, not only domestically but also internationally.
Regarding the configuration, although the details haven’t been fully revealed yet, it’s confirmed that it will have a triple rear camera setup, offering 12GB and 16GB of RAM, as well as storage versions ranging from 256GB to 1TB, which is basically the specifications expected of a flagship device. The color options are also quite diverse, with five choices in total: black, white, blue, gold, and orange, giving it an overall youthful feel.
But what truly draws attention is its form factor. The Pura X Max adopts a “wider” folding design, with a body noticeably wider than a regular phone when folded, and more like a small tablet when unfolded. This design differs from current mainstream foldable screens, emphasizing the user experience brought by horizontal space.
Simply put, it’s not just about making the screen bigger; it’s about trying to change how you use it. For example, watching videos, split-screen operation, and even some light office work scenarios will feel more like a tablet.
In terms of the system, Huawei has completely switched to its own ecosystem, which can be seen as a continuation of its existing approach. As for this more “radical” design, whether it will ultimately be more convenient or more extreme in use remains to be seen after the release and actual user experience. But what is certain is that Huawei is indeed trying to push foldable screens a step further in another direction.
Design and Features
Judging from the official images, the Pura X Max’s overall design philosophy is indeed quite different from current mainstream foldable screens. When unfolded, it’s wider, resembling a mini tablet, rather than simply elongating a phone. This design emphasizes the changes in experience brought about by horizontal space; for example, watching videos or using split-screen operation will feel more natural.
The back structure has also been significantly redesigned. The camera module is now more prominent and clearly separated from the outer screen area, giving it a more layered look. The outer screen itself is also larger than before, making it more convenient for handling everyday operations and reducing the need to frequently unfold the phone.
Regarding screen size, current estimates suggest the inner screen will be between 7.6 and 7.69 inches, with an aspect ratio close to 16:10, which is closer to the usage logic of a tablet. The outer screen will be around 5.5 inches, serving as a supplement for daily use, making its positioning quite clear.
There are also some subtle changes to the hinge; according to relevant information, Huawei has reinforced the structure, mainly to improve durability. The XMAGE imaging logo is also visible on the body, indicating that this device will maintain a certain level of performance in photography.
Both the inner and outer screens use a punch-hole front camera design, but the positions are different, which is a fairly conventional approach. Storage options are also quite comprehensive, ranging from 12GB+256GB to 16GB+1TB, basically covering the needs of different users.
Overall, this machine’s focus isn’t just on high-end specifications, but rather on exploring a different form of use. Whether this wider folding design will ultimately be more user-friendly remains to be seen after hands-on experience.
at last
Judging from current trends, it’s unlikely that Huawei is the only company experimenting with this “wider” foldable screen design. Rumors have already surfaced that Samsung is also working on a similar product, and Apple’s much-discussed foldable iPhone might also follow this approach. However, these are all still just rumors, and it’s difficult to predict exactly how things will unfold.
Interestingly, the Pura X Max isn’t exactly starting from scratch. It’s more like an enlargement and extension of the design foundation of the Pura X. When the latter was launched in 2025, it was already experimenting with a form factor different from traditional foldable screens, and this generation simply takes that idea a little more thoroughly.
Looking further back, Huawei has long since moved beyond a single folding design. Tri-fold screen devices like the Mate XT Ultimate Design have already appeared on the market, emphasizing more extreme sizes and forms. It’s clear that Huawei’s approach to foldable screens has been quite aggressive in recent years, not content with simply making “conventional versions.”
Therefore, the Pura X Max is essentially a continuation of this approach. It may not be the safest choice, but it is certainly the most exploratory. Whether this direction will eventually become mainstream depends on how other manufacturers follow suit.
