Hello, how are you? I am the original huh, click on the attention, more exciting content waiting for you!
Xiaomi has released Ultra versions of its flagships over the past few years, but the Xiaomi 13 Ultra marks a sea change for the company on two fronts.
This is the first Ultra that I think people should really consider buying. because this phone represents a comprehensive feature set all at once.
This is a compelling super-flagship to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, not a fancy product designed to show off the strength of Xiaomi's R&D department. If you can afford it, then this really should be one of the phones you consider.
Design
Let's get one thing straight: this phone is big. It has a camera module that feels incredibly big, even bigger. It's bizarrely large.
I don't hate huge cameras, but this is certainly a statement. Xiaomi actually tried to minimize the impact by tilting the rear of the body upwards so that the phone as a whole is thicker around the camera, slightly hiding how much it sticks out.
I was worried that this would make the phone feel top-heavy and a bit heavy, but the overall weight is surprisingly well-balanced. The fact that the phone weighs 227 grams feels heavy, but not excessively so, though it's a few grams lighter than the Samsung S23 Ultra or the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and roughly the same overall size as those phones.
One difference is that all three colors of the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra - white, black or green - come in a vegan leather finish. This is one of a number of steps Xiaomi has taken to mimic the aesthetics of classic DSLRs, of which I'm a fan. The grippy surface makes the phone easier to hold and adds welcome durability thanks to its high price point.
The frame of this phone is made of aluminum and combines flat sides and rounded corners to ensure a comfortable feel in the hand. Gorilla Glass Victus on the display and an IP68 rating complete the materials, making it one of the most rugged flagship phones around.
Screen and speakers
Considering the massive size of this phone, it's no surprise to see a screen to match. The 6.73-inch panel here is one of the largest screens you'll find, which makes it as good for gaming or streaming movies as it is for productivity.
Display quality is also impressive: Xiaomi uses LTPO OLED display technology, which allows the screen to dynamically adjust its refresh rate from a peak of 120Hz all the way down to 1Hz.This allows you to enjoy the benefits of smooth scrolling and animation when you need it, as well as slowing down the battery power from the screen when possible.
This, combined with the crisp 1440 x 3200 resolution, produces what is truly one of the best displays you'll find. Almost everything on that panel looks good.
Stereo speakers are almost as good. This won't replace your favorite Bluetooth speaker, but it will get the job done in a pinch and provide enough power and clarity for soundtrack games and TV shows.
Specifications and performance
Unsurprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This is the newest and most powerful chip available in an Android phone, and Xiaomi has only surpassed the customized overclocked version of the same chip found in Samsung's Galaxy S23 series.
Equipped with a whopping 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM the phone really flies. It's a powerful combination that can easily power the latest Android games or multitasking.

Camera
The camera array is undoubtedly the main reason for choosing the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra and is the area where the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra best beats the competition. Interestingly, this is also the area where the phone is most similar to the more affordable Xiaomi 13 Pro, but the Ultra ups the ante by a level or two.
Let's start with the main camera. It uses the same 50Mp, 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor as the 13 Pro (and phones like the Vivo X90 Pro and Oppo Find X6 Pro), but ups the ante by adding a variable aperture.
This isn't as versatile as the variable aperture in the Huawei P60 Pro, which can reach ten different speeds. Instead, the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra can only jump between a fast f/1.9 setting or a slow f/4.0, but that's still more variability than almost any phone on the market.
The fast f/1.9 setting lets in more light, making it ideal for indoor shots, low light and other areas where light levels can make a difference. In contrast, the f/4.0 aperture is better for landscapes and group shots because it increases depth of field and keeps more of the frame in focus. You can choose to switch manually or let the phone decide.
It helps that the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra's main camera has excellent corner matching support. The other three rear cameras all use 50Mp sensors, in fact they even all use the same Sony IMX858 sensor.
Ultrawide is the least exciting of the three. It's capable and competent, and spends most of its time as close to the main camera as possible. But it's also the lens that proves most likely to struggle in challenging lighting conditions, probably because it's the only one that lacks optical image stabilization.
Both zooms - 3.2x and 5x, with the program also offering a 2x digital zoom option by default - are even more impressive. Detail is excellent, and dynamic range impresses even the shorter of the two - a rarity in any telephoto lens. Both also handle low light confidently, maintaining excellent sharpness and exposure even in trickier shots.
The fact that Xiaomi has carefully tweaked all four cameras to make them color-matched and similar sensors helps, no doubt. You have one of the best all-around rear camera sets in any phone.
As for the front, it's even simpler: there's a 32Mp selfie lens in a punch hole. The lens is bright, detailed, and no one needs to see such a clear shot of my pores.
Battery Charging
Another great thing about the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra is that it comes with a massive 5000mAh battery. Even with all the features of this phone, it can can be used comfortably for a whole day and will probably last for two days, but only if you are a light user.
I usually find that I still have about half the battery power left on this phone before I go to bed. However, this is with the high refresh rate and resolution enabled, so longer battery life for more conservative users.
When you need to charge it, you can choose between 90W fast wired charging or wireless charging. The latter will work at speeds of up to 50W. The phone recharges its 48% battery in just 15 minutes, and a full charge takes more than half an hour. So you'll be making a slight sacrifice by choosing the Ultra.
Summary
The Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra is a brilliant phone that is a well-rounded, all-around hardware offering.
The display and camera are definitely the best, with great performance and battery life, but if they suit you then you can hardly go wrong with the Xiaomi Mi 13 Ultra.
