Are foldable devices the savior of an otherwise stagnant mobile industry in terms of sales and actual innovation? Almost all of the world's top smartphone vendors seem to think so, and they are increasingly working to make foldable phones appealing to the masses through sophisticated design, greater durability and lower prices.
Of course, the biggest resistance remains Apple, which reportedly plans to release its first (and possibly overpriced) foldable iPad no earlier than 2024, followed by a rookie foldable phone effort ...... and beyond.
You don't have to wait for Apple to see what a foldable iPhone looks like in practice. Engineers on the web have built a foldable iPhone.
To put it mildly, the challenging, baffling, and yes, expensive process took a total of over 200 days (!!!!) ), involving no less than 37 different screens (most of which ended up broken or completely shattered) and a complex combination of components and custom parts from the original iPhone intended to fit into the modified body of the 2019 Motorola Razr.
The end result of this Herculean effort is the surprisingly practical and natural-looking ...... is essentially a monster that you probably never thought would come back to life, even for a moment.
While the engineer behind the crazy folding phone admits his frustration with the many failures in the preparation of the "iPhone V" that brought him to the brink of quitting several times, the phone was an undeniable success despite its very obvious flaws.
Engineers say they created the one-off using spare Motorola RAZR parts, their own 3D printed components and the iPhone X screen, which has been made more flexible by replacing the non-foldable glass and touch layer. iOS jailbreak version allows Apple's software to run on the phone and introduces features like split screen mode. and introduces appropriate features such as split-screen mode.
The result is largely what you'd expect - it looks like the bastard child of the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, with all the compromises that come with an unofficial design. While the folded iPhone looks like it works as advertised, there's a huge gap when it's folded.
The battery is smaller, there's no wireless charging, and there's only one speaker. As you might guess, the design also loses water resistance and any real-world durability. The revised iOS is also apparently not optimized for flexible displays like Samsung's Galaxy Z series software.
Does the "world's first foldable iPhone" bend naturally like the Razr or Samsung Galaxy Z Flip? Absolutely not. Will it stand up to daily unfolding and folding actions in a reasonable amount of time? I'm a little very skeptical, considering that all the work that goes into making an actual commercial iPhone display requires folding in the first place, which obviously has a detrimental effect on its durability.
In the words of the great philosophers, these resourceful people were so focused on whether they could that they didn't stop to think about whether they should. Of course, like the original Jurassic Park dinosaur, this foldable iPhone X/Motorola Razr hybrid folding phone looks too cool to be considered practical or common sense.
Rumors suggest that Apple could launch a veritable foldable iPhone in 2023, making the cobbled-together phone more of a (very rough) preview than a desirable product. Just wait long enough and you might get a better product.
The appearance of this foldable phone illustrates at least one of the challenges Apple faces. A proper foldable iPhone will require significant engineering changes and software tweaks to meet user expectations.
There are still issues that even brands like Motorola and Samsung have yet to overcome, such as the display wrinkling and (in some cases) cracking. So hopefully Apple will address these issues. Do you like this pirated version of the folding iPhone?
