Samsung is about to launch three highly anticipated flagship smartphones from the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. Apart from that, the South Korean tech giant is reportedly gearing up to launch its next foldable phone.
While Samsung fans wait with bated breath to get their hands on the Galaxy S23 series smartphones, key details about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 have surfaced online.
Samsung Galaxy S23, Samsung Galaxy S23+ and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra may be unveiled during the upcoming Unpacked event. Apart from the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, Samsung may also launch the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 this summer.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 proved to be one of the best foldable smartphones to officially hit the market last year. The phone strikes the perfect balance between battery life, software, camera and build quality.
However, there is still a lot of room for improvement. In order to compete with our brand's new foldable phones, Samsung will have to fix a major design flaw.
To the delight of Samsung fans, the Korean tech giant is doing just that with one of its foldable phones called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Analysts have spelled out the improved design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 ahead of its official release. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will reportedly feature a waterdrop hinge.
As a result, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 users will be able to fold the phone completely flat. Notably, users won't notice any gaps between the two halves of the device in folded form.
On top of that, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have a barely noticeable crease on the inner screen. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold users have been waiting for this improvement with bated breath.
Samsung won't follow in the footsteps of other smartphone companies and drop the IPX8 waterproof rating. Recall that the Samsung , Galaxy Z Fold 4 features a new hinge mechanism, but it still doesn't allow the folded phone to close completely flat.
On the other hand, Xiaomi and Huawei have introduced foldable phones with water drop hinges. These unique hinges allow the device to close completely flat. Moreover, it reduces the visibility of the seams.
However, Samsung reportedly didn't use the same mechanism as it asked the company to drop the IPX8 waterproofing feature. Now, the situation seems to have changed.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to have a near-perfect flat folding design and be water resistant. On the downside, the device is not dust resistant.
Samsung is reportedly calling its new hinge design a "dumbbell." The company reportedly filed a patent for the design in 2016, but did not adopt it for unknown reasons.
This dumbbell-shaped hinge may also improve the durability of the screen. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 users will be able to fold and unfold the device effortlessly during its lifetime.
According to a recent report, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 weighs 275 grams as compared to 263 grams of its predecessor. In addition, it is 6.5 millimeters thick as compared to 6.3 millimeters for the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
The change in size and weight are the main signs that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will come with an S Pen holster. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 could be the first Galaxy Z Fold model to fully feature the S Pen.
Given that Samsung fans have been urging the tech giant to bring the S Pen to the Galaxy Z Fold, it's highly likely that this speculation will become a reality. The accessory is currently only available for the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S22 Ultra models.
On top of that, the source also said that the beta version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have a novel Snapdragon 985 5G SoC installed underneath the phone's internals. it's possible that this unannounced chip will only be running on performance for the beta version of the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Considering that Samsung is unlikely to test the phone with a processor it doesn't intend to use, the rumors become even less credible here. Apparently, this chipset doesn't even exist.
Therefore, it is safe to assume that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 could come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Alternatively, it may use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Plus processor.
A dedicated S Pen holster will make the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 heavier and thicker than the current model. Readers are advised to take the new SoC rumors with a grain of salt.
