While the term "ultrabook" was originally coined by Intel, it has since been adopted by the broader market to refer to any laptop that is significantly thinner and lighter. So we made sure to include laptops, even if they use AMD or Apple chips.

For my list of the best ultrabook computers, I included high-scoring laptops with a maximum screen size of 14 inches, while excluding any portable computers that are thicker than 20 millimeters or weigh more than 1.5 kilograms. Let's take a look at it together.

ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED: The Best Overall Ultrabook

The ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED is the closest thing I've reviewed to a perfect ultrabook laptop. It weighs less than 1kg, is only 14.9mm thick and comes with an OLED display, albeit at a reasonable price.

The OLED screen of the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED has a dazzling contrast ratio and a high resolution of 2880 x 1800. This makes this ASUS laptop a great choice for watching videos. The screen is also accurate enough for content work if you want to do some casual Photoshop work.

We're also impressed with the excellent productivity performance here, seeing better results than the MacBook Air M1. Powered by Apple and Intel, the new portable computer outperforms this ASUS laptop in terms of CPU performance, but few do better than its impressive battery life, which our tests showed at 13 hours.

Our only major concern with this laptop is its port offering, as it doesn't have USB-A connectivity, but that's a common downside to all of the Ultrabook laptops on this recommendation list.

While the Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED may be hard to find right now, it's certainly worth the wait given its all-around quality.

Apple MacBook Air M2 (2022): The Best Apple Ultrabook

Not surprisingly, the latest MacBook Air is the best superbook Apple has to offer. It measures just 11.3 millimeters, making it the slimmest laptop on this list of recommendations and ensuring it slips into your bag very easily.

With the power of the new M2 chip, my benchmark results show that it not only has amazing processing speed, but also enough graphics power for entry-level video editing. When high performance is required, MacBook Air is one of the best Ultrabook choices.

Apple has also updated its design with a sleeker design than its predecessor and includes the MagSafe charging connector so your laptop won't fly off the desktop if someone trips over the power cord.

The screen is also excellent, and while it lacks the vibrancy of the OLED panel, it still boasts a high resolution of 2560 x 1664 and a brightness of 500 nits.

The only major drawback of this laptop is its price, with the base model selling for a whopping $9,499. But you can certainly go for the MacBook Air M1, which has most of the same features, but at a more affordable price.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2: The best 12-inch ultrabook

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is a miniature laptop with a screen size of just 12 inches. This arguably makes it the most portable laptop on the Best Ultrabooks list, even if it's not the lightest or thinnest.

But the most attractive factor of the Surface Laptop Go 2 is its price, making it the most affordable laptop on that list by a considerable margin. The price is also a bargain, making it an excellent choice for students and those on a budget.

Why is this laptop so cheap? Well, my benchmark results show it to be the slowest laptop on this list (but still good enough for everyday video), and the low screen resolution makes it a poor choice for those who like to watch things like movies on their laptops.

But given the low price and ultra-portability, the Surface Laptop Go 2 is still an excellent choice for those looking for one of the best ultrabook laptops available.
