Hello, how are you? I am the original huh, click on the attention, more exciting content waiting for you!
It's been a few months since the launch of the iPhone 14 lineup, and now the buzz around the iPhone 15 is growing. Because while the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max are all great phones, they're not really huge leaps from their iPhone 13 predecessors. Many are hoping that Apple has been saving major innovations for the iPhone 15 lineup, and that this time around it will really blow us away.
So what do we know so far? While Apple is keeping quiet about the iPhone 15 for now, there have been plenty of leaks and rumors. While most of them can be half-heartedly believed, we trust some of them because they come from reliable sources with a proven track record of accuracy.
Apple iPhone 15: Design
We're still a long way away from the possible release of the iPhone 15, but we've already established that it's going to have one major design change: a shift from Lightning to USB-C. That's because new EU regulations announced last fall will require all phones sold after the fall of 2024 to be charged using USB-C connectors.
Apple has agreed to comply, and while they could still technically sneak out new phones with Lightning connectors between now and the deadline, it wouldn't make much business sense to do so. With iPads, MacBooks and most third-party accessories moving to USB-C, it makes sense from a branding perspective anyway.
Every iPhone 15 model, then, will likely ditch Lightning for USB-C ...... But that's not all. As we reported back in November, the leak suggests that all four iPhones have different port capabilities.
It appears that only the iPhone 15 Pro model will support USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, while the standard iPhone 15 will only support USB 2.0, which offers no speed boost over Lightning.
In fact, other leaks and rumors about the iPhone 15 series design may not be as solid. But if they come from reliable sources, they're still worth keeping an eye on.
For example, many seasoned Apple leakers claim that Dynamic Island, Apple's alternative to interactive bangs, will be available on all four iPhone 15 models. That would be a big deal, as it's currently only available in the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
There have been rumors that the iPhone 15 will replace physical buttons with tactile touch sensors; like the "tactile" home button in the iPhone SE. However, we're pretty sure that's not a good idea.
Then there's the display. There have been recent rumors that Apple is working on increasing the brightness to 2,500 nits - up from the 14 Pro's current maximum of 2,000 nits. Given that a brighter display was the selling point of the Apple Watch Ultra, we wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing happen with the iPhone lineup.
Less worrisome is the rumor that the iPhone 15 Ultra will be made of titanium. It's not something we desperately need, but at least it won't upset us (unless it makes the price prohibitively high, of course).
Apple iPhone 15: Camera
We don't know any official information about the iPhone 15 camera and we haven't even seen too many leaks yet. The biggest rumor is the prediction that the iPhone 15 Ultra will come with a second selfie camera.
What that's for, though, we can only speculate. It could mean the addition of an ultra-wide-angle selfie lens or a better zoom. Or it could introduce a dual system for sharper, more detailed images or allow selfies to be taken at a shallower depth of field so the subject stands out from the background.
Apple iPhone 15: Pricing and release date
We've yet to hear about pricing or a release date for the iPhone 15 series. In the case of the latter, however, past practice could point us to a possible release window.
Apple tends to launch new iPhones in the first few weeks of September: taking all of this into account, Tuesday, September 5 or Tuesday, September 12, 2023 is our educated guess for the iPhone 15 release.
