I recently had the opportunity to test out the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold and I must say I was very impressed with this Windows laptop. As a tech enthusiast, I was particularly excited about its innovative foldable design that sets it apart from other laptops on the market.

The build quality of this laptop is excellent and its sleek design exudes elegance. The hinges are sturdy and well made and the computer feels very solid in my hands.

The 17.3-inch OLED touchscreen display is stunning, with vibrant colors and deep blacks for a truly immersive viewing experience. I also appreciate that the display can be folded in various ways to suit my needs, making it easy to use in different modes. After using the phone for a week, this is what I think of it.

ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold: design and ergonomics

The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is a laptop that's a sight to behold. In a nutshell, it's a 17-inch foldable display with I/O and buttons covering its edges.

You can use this laptop as a 17-inch portable monitor running Windows using the included Bluetooth keyboard. In addition, you can turn it into a huge tablet and lay it down on your bed or use the stand to watch a movie or something. To say the least, the laptop offers you a lot of freedom.

In terms of design, the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED has an aspect ratio of 4:3, so the laptop looks a bit square.

ASUS has taken some very clever steps to make this foldable Windows PC feel like a tablet, as evidenced by the addition of volume keys, a power button, and a speaker grill around the edges of the computer. There's also a stand on the back of the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED that helps adjust the angle of the device. One design decision that seems a bit odd is the placement of the front-facing camera.

Pantone Validation and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio also ensure a very vivid display with strong colors. The screen refresh rate is limited to 60Hz, most likely to conserve battery life, but I think there should at least be an option to increase the refresh rate to 90Hz.

Finally, the 17-inch FOLED is also VESA certified, specifically Display HDR 500, which means that the screen has a local dimming area, 10-bit color display capability, and a peak brightness of 500 nits, as mentioned earlier.

The speakers are placed horizontally on the side of the screen and sound pretty good. They are very loud and provide very clear audio. However, the speakers lack bass and it feels like the high volume makes up for it.

Even at full brightness, the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold delivers about 7-8 hours of battery life with moderate use. This is the kind of laptop you can carry around to the coffee shop without having to bring a charger with you. Don't expect anything special in this world when it comes to gaming performance, mainly because the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold lacks a dedicated GPU.

The included Intel Iris XE iGPU is capable of playing some light games with low graphics presets. You can also easily play eSports games like Overwatch, Valorant and CS: GO as they have very low hardware requirements. Moreover, playing these games on an OLED screen is a pure pleasure. The colors displayed on the screen are so good that after a while, you can even play the games on low graphical presets.

ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold: room for improvement

In a world full of traditional laptops. The ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold is trying to create its own niche, and that often comes with challenges.

For example, while the folding mechanism works fine, it doesn't lock when you fully open the screen. If you try to use the laptop as a tablet, the center crease folds all the way inward, so you're stuck using this 17.3-inch device as a giant book, not a tablet.

Additionally, the speakers on the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold are not as good as they should be. Much smaller sized tablets offer much better quality than this current 17-inch behemoth.

Considering the price of the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, it should come with a dedicated GPU.Asus already uses several low-power graphics chips in the Vivobook Pro lineup, which work fine without affecting the heat dissipation of the unit.
