OPPO's first two horizontally foldable phones generated a lot of interest due to their unique 9:8.4 "golden" aspect ratio, however, with the launch of the new OPPO Find N3, the company is favoring a more traditional design. This shift is made possible by some new software technology that enhances the multitasking experience.

Notably, the phone has been upgraded with a Hasselblad-branded rear camera, which significantly improves the durability of the foldable phone, as well as inheriting the alert slider feature from OnePlus, all of which are new features that show off brilliantly on the recently released OPPO Find N3 Flip. OPPO Find N3: Design

The OPPO Find N3 comes with a brand new foldable AMOLED display that measures 7.8 inches wide with a resolution of 2,240 x 2,268 and a final pixel density of 426 ppi.

Regarding the folding screen's crease problem, the design is clearly better this time around, and it's no exaggeration to call it "virtually crease-free". What's even more noteworthy is the new self-repairing coating, which reduces wear and tear and keeps the screen in pristine condition for longer.

With the increased height of the body, the OPPO Find N3's display has a more common and practical 20:9 aspect ratio. Here we have a 6.3-inch 2,484 x 1,116 AMOLED panel (431 ppi).

Similar to a flexible screen, it supports 1,440Hz PWM dimming to minimize eye fatigue, offers a refresh rate of 1-120Hz, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and up to 1,400 nits in the highest brightness mode, with peaks up to 2,800 nits.

The OPPO Find N3 features a third-generation Flexion hinge, which is made of zirconium-based liquid metal for compactness and the company's own aerospace-grade steel for strength.

Additionally, the flexible screen is supported by carbon fiber support panels for increased structural strength, which makes the device 36% more resistant to bending than the previous generation of foldable devices.

Even better, the OPPO Find N3 has been certified by TÜV Rheinland to have a folding life of 1,000,000 cycles, more than double that of the previous generation OPPO Find N2, and far exceeding the 200,000 cycles of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

In addition, the number of folds was maintained at 100,000 in both 50°C (122°F) and -20°C (-4°F) extreme temperature tests. While there is no mention of a specific waterproof rating, OPPO has used a weather sealing process to make the OPPO Find N3 splash-proof.

OPPO Find N3: Lens

In the realm of photography, the OPPO Find N3 has undergone a major upgrade. For the first time, the phone features Sony's 48-megapixel (4:3) LYTIA-T808 sensor, which is actually 52 megapixels and boasts a sensor size of 1/1.35 inches, which is 20% larger than most of its major competitors.

This sensor utilizes a unique two-layer transistorized pixel structure, a technique that cleverly allows each pixel to receive more light, thus providing richer image detail. Sony even claims that this chip is comparable to high-quality 1-inch sensors. In addition, the main camera has an f/1.7 aperture and 24mm equivalent focal length and supports optical stabilization.

The phone also features a 64-megapixel f/2.6 telescope telephoto camera on an unspecified 1/2-inch sensor that's three times larger than the main competitor's foldable phone sensor.

This 70 mm focal length equivalent lens offers 3x optical zoom and 6x "lossless" zoom (via crop), both thanks to the optical stabilization provided by the floating prism structure. In addition, you can use the same camera in Hasselblad Portrait mode.

Last but not least, the OPPO Find N3 features a 48-megapixel, 14-millimeter-equivalent ultra-wide-angle camera with a Sony IMX581 1/2-inch sensor, which, according to the OPPO Find N3's claims, is larger than its main competitor's sensor by 130%.This ultra-wide-angle lens comes with an f/2.2 aperture, a 114-degree field of view, and supports macro shots down to 4 centimeters.

Additionally, to enhance the performance of the photography hardware, the OPPO Find N3 is equipped with the new OPPO Computational Photography (OCP) feature, which captures raw luminance information for pixel-by-pixel fine-tuning of each HDR lens.

The technology is said to bring users more natural looking images, rich in highlight and shadow detail. Although somewhat similar to the retired MariSilicon X imaging neuroprocessor, OPPO has yet to go into the details of the OCP technology.

On a related note, the ProXDR display mode in the phone's Gallery app takes advantage of OCP details to optimize the peak brightness of the screen to make photos stand out. Of course, users can also long-press the ProXDR button in order to view photos in their original state.

For video calls, users can choose to use either the external 32-megapixel f/2.4 self-timer (1/3.14-inch, 22-millimeter-equivalent focal length) or the built-in 20-megapixel f/2.2 counterpart (1/4-inch, 20-millimeter-equivalent focal length).

OPPO Find N3: Chip and Power

As for the rest of the core phone specs, the OPPO Find N3 is of course not without Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, in addition to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, along with support for dual SIM slots, NFC, a triple-speaker system (with excellent spatial audio support), and a higher-capacity 4 800mAh battery.

The phone also comes with powerful 67W SuperVOOC charging technology that can fully charge more than 80% in just 30 minutes or in 42 minutes.

The design of the phone also introduces a new alert slider located next to the volume adjustment buttons and the fingerprint reader on the side.The overall design is lightweight, weighing in at 239 grams and measuring 5.8 millimeters thick. Although not the slimmest phone, it is still impressive in its category.

OPPO Find N3: Finally

The OPPO Find N3 is available in four attractive color options including Thousand Hills Green, Submarine Black, Log Gold and Chibi Danxia. Surprisingly, however, the price of the Find N3 with the same 16GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration has gone up significantly compared to last year's Find N2.

The premium version, the Collector's Edition, is priced at $12,999 and offers additional accessories, including a stand case and car charger, making it a prized collector's item among cell phones.

Fortunately, there's a more affordable option in the form of a 12GB RAM and 512GB storage variant, priced at just $9,999. Even that, however, is a significant price increase from last year's base model. So, would you consider getting one?
