Hello, how are you? I am the original huh, click on the attention, more exciting content waiting for you!
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra remains under wraps for now, but now that the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro has been spotted, why not compare the two of them?
I can't wait for the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and I'm also excited about comparing Xiaomi's flagship, so let's unveil this exciting moment together!
From the way things are going, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro seems to be a strong competitor to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Curious about it? Read on to find out the details. Here are my observations on the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra initial comparison.
Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: design and size
While the size, weight and design of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra remains a mystery, leaks and renders though exist, we need to take this information with a grain of salt. However, cosmetically, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro and the Galaxy S24 Ultra are very similar in terms of physical size and weight.
In terms of design, there are some differences between the two. While the concept is still that of a phone with a glass-to-metal sandwich, the two companies have slightly different design philosophies.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to retain the familiar design of its predecessor, with a separate camera channel for each camera, a slightly curved screen, and a perforated design on the side with a selfie camera.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro features a quad-curved display and a perforated camera like most flagship phones today. The back also presents a curved design with a rectangular camera bump on the left side.
Another notable difference is that the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro offers a Titanium option, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's spec sheet doesn't address that option at this time, and given that it's still in the early stages, we're looking forward to further announcements in the future.
Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Display differences
In terms of display, both the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra pack top-of-the-line panels. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a slightly larger 6.8-inch Super AMOLED panel with support for a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz and an expected resolution of 3088 x 1440 pixels with a pixel density of 501 PPI.
The Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 6.7-inch OLED panel that also supports a refresh rate of 1-120Hz and a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels or 521 PPI.
As you can see, the two are very close. Xiaomi's spec sheet claims a peak brightness of 3000 nits, while I expect the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to have a peak brightness of around 2500 nits. So, a much-anticipated comparison is in store for the future.
When it comes to biometrics, both phones rely on an under-screen fingerprint scanner, and we had to do real-world testing to see how well they performed.
Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: performance and software
There aren't too many surprises on the hardware front; both phones are powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The storage and RAM configurations are almost identical; both phones offer a 1TB option starting at 256GB and both come with plenty of RAM.
The Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro is offered with a 16GB RAM option and while the RAM configuration of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is not confirmed yet, RAM capacity is no longer an issue in smartphones these days so we don't have to read too much into it. Hopefully, both phones will achieve smooth operation without any issues, just like the real flagships.
As far as we know, Xiaomi will offer at least two years of major OS updates, while the Galaxy will offer at least four years of major OS updates. Note that Xiaomi has already started carrying its own Surge OS, while Samsung is still using Android.
Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Lenses
One of the most striking differences in photography right now is the lens configuration. Xiaomi's phone packs three cameras on the back, all of which utilize 50MP sensors. One of the most important news is that the main camera now features a variable aperture, ranging from f/1.42 to f/4.0, a feature we've seen before on the Huawei Mate 50 Pro and P60 Pro.
We know limited information about the camera system of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Some believe it marks the end of the superzoom era.
Others have also stated that we are on the verge of real photographic enjoyment, however, we will have to wait until January 2024 to be clear. What is certain is that with its Leica camera system on board, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro is already a strong contender in the photography space.
Battery life and charging
These days, smartphones usually charge incredibly fast and the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro is no exception. The phone supports 120W wired fast charging and claims to charge from 0% to 100% in just 18 minutes.
Even more remarkable is its 50W of wireless charging power, once again demonstrating the ability to fully charge a 4880mAh battery in just 40 minutes.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra remains a mystery in this regard. Samsung may choose to keep the 45W wired fast charging feature of the S23 Ultra or boldly take it to the next level.
Both phones support reverse wireless charging, enabling you to charge other small QI-compatible devices.
Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Summary
It's still too early for the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for us to provide too many details.
Both phones are legitimate flagships, and while our knowledge of the latter is still limited, it's clear that this is going to be a fierce competition.
Looking at the specs sheet, the Xiaomi Mi 14 Pro may have a slight edge in terms of camera system versatility, charging speed, and of course the titanium option. However, until we really get a hold of both phones, it's too early to assert who the winner is.
