Hello, how are you? I am the original huh, click on the attention, more exciting content waiting for you!
Apple has a long history in the music industry, thanks to iTunes and the iconic iPod line that helped change the music industry for the better. And while iPods are now a thing of the past, Apple still has a place in the music industry thanks to the ever-expanding line of AirPods.
From the basic level AirPods to the AirPods Pros and now the AirPods Max, there's a plethora of Apple-branded headphones, but that only makes the choice difficult for users. Fortunately, I've tested all of the Apple AirPods that are available, so we know which ones are worth buying in 2023. To find out which AirPods are our current favorites, read on.
Apple AirPods Pro 2: The best Apple headphones
Like the AirPods Pro, the AirPods Pro 2 are by far the only headphones on this list with the best recommendation. not only are the Pro 2 the highest rated Apple headphones I've tested, but they're also the most expensive.
AirPods Pro 2 are Apple's most advanced true wireless headphones, surpassing AirPods 3 in design, sound and feature set with internal upgrades from the 2019 AirPods Pro.
The most obvious difference between AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 is the addition of active noise cancellation, a feature offered on the original model.
The AirPods Pro 2 have received a major upgrade in terms of ANC, and when in use, they remove more noise than the Sony WF-1000XM4. Unfortunately, there's still no way to manually adjust the noise canceling or transparency modes, both of which automatically adjust their performance to fit the listener's surroundings.
Battery life has been improved for the second generation of AirPods Pro with 6 hours in the headphones and 30 hours in the case, matching standard AirPods even with ANC on. The charging case also comes with some handy new features, including a lanyard loop for a wrist strap or to hang the AirPods from your bag, and a speaker for "Find My" and charging reminders.
Like the Pros, the Pro 2 features silicone headphones instead of the hard plastic ones found on the AirPods 3, providing a more secure fit. This time there are also XS-sized earcups for smaller ears.
As with every pair of AirPods we've tested, iOS integration is excellent. Multi-device switching means that once you pair with one Apple device, you can connect to other Apple phones, laptops, and tablets.
Audio quality is also impressive. the Pro 2 has a full and rich sound, and the H2 outperforms the original Pro. this is especially evident in the clarity and detail of the vocals.
The AirPods Pro 2 are not the best choice for those who are not yet part of the Apple ecosystem, as some of the best features rely on this factor. the Pro 2 are also expensive, although they are still cheaper than the AirPods Max.
Apple AirPods 3: The Best AirPods on the Cheap
AirPods 3 is the third generation model in Apple's standard AirPods line, and is easily recommended for iPhone users and those who want a truly wireless pair of headphones.
AirPods 3 have been redesigned with shorter bars and larger case sizes to accommodate more ears than the first and second generation models. We took them for a few runs and found the buds stayed in place. They are IPX4 rated for sweat and rain protection, making them a great choice for fitness workouts.
The AirPods 3 have a longer battery life than the Pro model, totaling 30 hours (6 hours of listening per headset), and like the Pro, they take advantage of MagSafe support, which allows them to connect magnetically to a supported charger for easier connectivity.
Like the other AirPods on this list, it offers excellent iOS and macOS integration for iPhone and Mac users. It supports immersive 3D audio with head tracking, which we found a bit off-putting when listening to certain content and moving around a lot.
In our opinion, the sound quality is an improvement over the AirPods 2, but the vocals aren't as clear as the Pro. There's also no noise cancellation, and the open design means that sound can leak and interfere with what you're listening to.
AirPods Max: The best over-the-ear AirPods
The AirPods Max are Apple's first pair of over-the-ear AirPods, and their high price tag immediately makes them more expensive than Sony's WH-1000XM5 and Bose NC Headphones 700, but we still found a lot to appreciate about these headphones.
I found the design to be very unique and comfortable to wear, with a digital crown similar to the Apple Watch and buttons built into the ear cups rather than gesture controls, an aspect of the headphones that I appreciated for the physical feedback they provided.
Unlike true wireless AirPods, which come in a colorful array of options to choose from, the headphones don't fold for design reasons, and the carrying case (which also charges the headphones) doesn't offer much protection and looks silly.
With powerful adaptive noise cancellation that rivals the likes of Bose's NC Headphones 700 and Sony's older WH-1000XM4, and the usual excellent integration with the Apple ecosystem, as well as Spatial Audio Dolby Atmos.
Apps that allow you to support listening through Apple Music and some more immersive. With a battery of only 20 hours, they're near the lower end of the market, so they lack the durability of Sony's headphones.
I found the sound quality to be excellent, with the dual H1 chips and adaptive EQ producing a balanced sound that impressed in a variety of music.
There's plenty of bass to be trusted, and we never found the higher frequencies to sound stressful and distortion-free when the volume was turned up. The lack of any high-resolution audio support is a sign when cheaper Sony and Technics headphones have this level of support.
