Now that we're in 2023, it's time to look forward to another year of exciting cell phone releases. Let's take a look - from the excellent Android phones to the latest iPhone.
Coupled with a few different options for those who don't want to settle down, we'll take you through the best cell phones on the market today and all of their functional benefits.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max
If money is no object and you want an iPhone, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max is the best iPhone you can buy.
It has one of the best displays in its class: its 6.7-inch screen has excellent pixel density and color calibration, as well as an ultra-high peak brightness of 2,000 nits (1,000 nits for typical content), making it easily legible outdoors.
It also features a 120 Hz refresh rate provided by the LTPO panel, which can be lowered to 1 Hz to enable the new always-on display feature without draining the large battery.
All of this makes iOS smoother, more responsive, and more satisfying to use. Best of all, it's powered by the Apple A16 bionic chip, which is undoubtedly the fastest processor in a smartphone today.
The camera has also been improved, as it does every year, and this time we have a larger 48 MP sensor, which can take super high resolution photos if you choose to shoot in RAW format.
Apple is also using a 48 MP sensor for better digital zoom, adding a 2x step in Portrait mode to fall between 1x and 3x.
In addition to professional-looking 4K video footage and the super-fast chip that handles it, it gets a slightly improved movie mode and a new action mode with excellent stability.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
Watch out for the Galaxy S23 coming soon. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with an updated, next-generation dynamic OLED screen, the Galaxy S22 Ultra can reach a record 1750 nits of peak brightness.
It's a modern LTPO OLED that actively switches between 1 Hz and 120 Hz to conserve battery power, but will still show you smooth animations when you need them. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is probably the best Samsung phone you can buy.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra takes things a step further, or should we say brings things closer - thanks to two dedicated zoom cameras, you get the longest, cleanest zoom on your phone.
This and the updated Night Mode photography make it a real contender for best photo phone. The Galaxy S22 Ultra also comes with Qualcomm's latest and most powerful chip, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The S22 Ultra features the same 5000mAh battery as the S21 Ultra and the same 1440p resolution. Considering the Snapdragon chip is more energy efficient and the screen can drop to a slightly lower refresh rate when needed. So it's worth recommending
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 basically refurbishes the steps of the Fold 3, but that's not bad. Last year's foldable was already very, very sturdy, and it's shocking how quickly Samsung made it sturdy, durable, and fun.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 eliminates more annoyances by having a slightly wider centered outer screen, a thinner hinge, and a little better hidden under-screen camera inside.
Moreover, the camera module has been slightly updated for the Samsung Galaxy S22 series so it is always a great phone. It also happens to unfold into half a piece.
One Plus 11
The OnePlus 11 comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and up to 16GB of RAM, and OnePlus says it has equipped the phone with an "advanced RAM management system" for better multitasking and gaming performance. You also get up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The OnePlus 11 comes with a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display that uses a Samsung LTPO 3.0 panel to achieve a variable refresh rate of 1 to 120Hz.
In the camera this, OnePlus 11 is expected to come with a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary sensor, a 32MP Sony IMX709 portrait lens and a 48MP IMX581 ultra wide-angle camera that also supports macro shots. The camera software is once again tuned by Hasselblad. A 16MP front lens takes care of selfies.
It comes with a 5000mAh dual battery with 100W SUPERVOOC fast charging system.OnePlus claims that this phone can charge 50% in 10 minutes and 100% in 25 minutes.Note that the phone does not support wireless charging.
OPPO Find N2
The Oppo Find N2 is the successor to the Find N and brings a number of design-related improvements for starters. This new foldable phone is 43 grams lighter than the original Find N and is actually a bit lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The company also claims that the Find N2 is 1.3 millimeters thinner than its predecessor when opened.
It has also reduced the number of parts in the hinge from 138 to 100. Additionally, the hinge now allows the Find N2 to offer a Flex Mode style feature called FlexForm Mode, which holds the phone in a position between 45 and 125 degrees when it's open.OPPO added that the foldable phone's display has been tested with 400,000 folds.
The OPPO Find N2 offers a similar design to its predecessor, making it smaller than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Expect a 5.54-inch 120Hz smartphone display (2,120 x 1,080, 17.7:9) on the outside and a 7.1-inch 120Hz foldable display (1,972 x 1,980, LTPO) on the inside. Compared to the original Find N, there are 67% fewer creases on the folded display and an anti-reflective coating on the body.
Internally, you'll find the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC here, rather than the brand new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Still, this is a powerful chipset, so running demanding games and apps shouldn't be a problem.
It also comes with a 4,520mAh battery and 67W wired charging. The latter is capable of fully charging the 100% in a claimed 42 minutes.Unfortunately, this device does not have wireless charging capabilities.
The OPPO Find N2 also comes with a very rugged camera system offering a 50MP main camera (IMX890, OIS, 24mm), a 48MP ultra wide angle camera (IMX581, 14mm) and a 32MP 2x telephoto camera (IMX709).
The latter camera also has an RGBW filter, which OPPO says should result in a sensitivity increase of 60% and a noise reduction of 35%. there's a 32MP camera on each screen for selfies and video calls.
Other camera-related features include a customized MariSilicon X imaging chip for improved 4K low-light and 4K HDR video, Hasselblad XPan mode, Hasselblad-branded Pro/Manual modes, and support for FlexForm mode.
Other noteworthy specs and features include Bluetooth 5.3, Color OS 13 on Android 13, dual speakers, Gorilla Glass Victus on the smartphone screen, side fingerprint scanner, and Wi-Fi 6.
