Hello, how are you? I am the original huh, click on the attention, more exciting content waiting for you!
The best iPad for video editing also happens to be the best tablet for video editing; no other manufacturer can beat iPad for delivering smooth, fast editing, color grading, and video rendering.
Our list brings together the iPads available today, in the order we recommend them for video editing. Whether you're looking for the absolute best iPad for video editing, regardless of price, or you're just getting started and want something inexpensive, we've gathered all the options for you in this list.
01. iPad Pro (M1, 2021): overall best iPad for video editing
You may be wondering why the latest iPad Pro isn't at the top of the list. That's because both models of the iPad Pro (M1, 2021) are still very powerful video editing tablets, even by today's standards.
Even better, they are cheaper than ever. This makes them a better value model for most people. Of course, if you're looking for the most powerful, you can check out their successors, who are our top pick at number three.
But rest assured, as amazing as the M2 chip in the new iPad Pro is, the iPad Pro (M1, 2021) still performs well. That's because both have the same number of CPU cores and RAM options.
The 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU in these M1-powered models will help you get through your video editing workloads, especially when paired with 16GB of RAM.
Meanwhile, the Liquid Retina display with P3 wide color gamut (Liquid Retina XDR for the 12.9-inch) will ensure that all those colors are reproduced well, as we found in our iPad Pro (M1) 12.9-inch review.
02. iPad Air (2022): The most affordable iPad for video editing
Thanks to Apple's massive upgrade to its lineup using the M1 chip, the lightest iPad doesn't lag behind the 2021 iPad Pro in terms of performance.
In fact, the only thing holding this model back when it comes to editing is its limited storage options - oddly enough, you can't get more than 256GB of storage - and only 8GB of RAM. If you're a video editor, you'll know what a difference an extra 8GB of RAM can make to your workflow.
Still, an 8-core CPU and 8GB GPU is impressive. And if you thought the previous-generation iPad Air with its fast A14 bionic chip was good, you'll be blown away by the huge difference in performance - as we did in our iPad Air (2022) review.
Like the iPad Pro 11-inch (2021), it features a Liquid Retina display with P3 wide color gamut and 264ppi pixel density, which means you'll get crisp, detailed, vibrant image quality and great color reproduction to help you make great videos.
But keep in mind that while this is a more affordable proposal, it's not the cheapest option. Its top model is almost as expensive as the base iPad Pro 11-inch configuration. If you want the cheapest, more beginner- and student-friendly iPad, check out my fourth ranking.
03. iPad Pro (M2, 2022): excellent premium iPad for video editing
There's no denying that the iPad Pro (2022) model is the most powerful of all the iPads. And thanks to the built-in M2 chips (with an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU), they put almost everything else to shame.
If only they hadn't been saddled with a hefty price tag, because not many people are willing to pay that - the cheaper M1 iPad Pro still holds its own when it comes to demanding workloads.
However, if you have the money, the iPad Pro (2022) will essentially fulfill the future needs of your portable or mobile video editing setup. Especially if you upgrade to 16GB RAM.
Choose the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and you'll enjoy a peak brightness of 1,600 nits and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. If you're editing HDR content, this is the way to go.
You may be disappointed by the lack of a battery life upgrade here, as like its predecessor it can last up to 10 hours on a single charge. However, when you consider how much power you'll get, especially if you're using video editing software that makes more use of the GPU, you'll realize that it's actually more energy efficient.
04. iPad (2022): The Best Video Editing iPad for Students
Thanks to the A14 bionic chip that now powers it and a bigger, brighter screen, the latest iPad gets a massive upgrade in specs.
Both helped transform the original iPad lineup from an iPad for most users to one of the most powerful tablets that can handle both CPU-intensive and GPU-intensive tasks ...... such as easier video editing workloads.
That's right; the previously underestimated and often overlooked iPad is now able to help students and fledgling video editors with their demanding creative process. We saw this firsthand in our iPad 2022 review.
Due to RAM limitations (you can only buy 8GB), we can't confidently recommend it to professional video editors. After all, time is money.
However, if you are just starting out and still honing your skills, then this is an ace money saver.
