Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: The former king of flips

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is the follow-up to one of the coolest phones Samsung has ever made, and possibly the first flip phone to change the way we think about new flip phone recommendations.

The old Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 did have only one glaring flaw and that was the small cover display, but thankfully Samsung has added a bright new screen on the outside for your viewing pleasure.

If you need a foldable, high-performance phone, you won't find a faster flip phone than the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra may be sleeker, but it's still using last year's chipset inside instead of the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (which is of course "for Galaxy").

We'd like to see a better camera and perhaps better battery life on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, but it still outperforms the competition on both counts, and Samsung has the most experience with foldable phones, so the software has been over-perfected and can be fun to enjoy.

OPPO Find N2 Flip: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Rivals

OPPO has unveiled its first flip foldable phone, the OPPO Find N2 Flip; it seems to be specifically designed to outperform the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 in almost every round.

Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, but OPPO's phone is still a solid phone at an affordable price.

The OPPO Find N2 Flip features a zero-gap folding design that folds twice as many times as the Samsung alternative, a much larger battery, faster charging, a larger display on par with the flagship, and perhaps most importantly, a lower starting price.

Thanks to the OPPO Find N2 Flip's massive 3.26-inch portrait-covered display, a pair of powerful rear cameras (with a 50MP sensor on the front) can be used for selfies, while the 4,300mAh battery keeps the phone going all day without worrying about it and is fast-charging with 44W fast charging.

As well as undercutting Samsung on price, OPPO's first flip-foldable phone is on par with its rivals when it comes to impressive four-year OS updates and five-year security updates.

Honor Magic VS: the most affordable book-style foldable

In direct competition with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and now the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Honor Magic Vs aims to be the best bookish foldable phone on the market without the really high price tag of companies like Samsung.

The Honor Magic Vs features a slim 6.2-inch external display and an impressive 7.9-inch internal display. Both displays are larger than the Z Fold 5, which really helps maximize the potential of the foldable form factor.

The larger 7.9-inch display is great for viewing content and large enough to make multitasking a breeze. Plus, if you've ever cursed an on-screen keyboard that's too small to avoid typing mistakes, you'll really appreciate the added space on the larger display, which makes note-taking much easier.

Thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset built into the Honor Magic Vs, multitasking is very good, and we didn't notice any noticeable slowdown when running two apps at the same time, even though it's not as good as the Galaxy 2nd Gen in the Snapdragon 8 Mighty Z Fold 5.

Nonetheless, the large 5,000mAh battery will still get you safely through each day without worrying, and can even run for up to two days on a single charge with moderate use. It's also worth noting that the Magic Vs is only available with a high-spec 512GB option and 12GB of RAM to boot. If you're looking for an alternative to Samsung's foldable phone, then the Magic Vs is a great place to start.
